      SOUTHWEST QUARTER OF
LOWER MICHIGAN FOR TODAY AND TONIGHT...

DISPATCHERS PLEASE PASS THIS INFORMATION ALONG TO YOUR
      EMERGENCY
      MANAGERS.

      HAZARDS...
THUNDERSTORMS LATER TONIGHT COULD CONTAIN DIME SIZE
      HAIL AND
DAMAGING WIND GUSTS. SOME STORMS TONIGHT COULD
      PRODUCE AN INCH OF
RAIN. AT THIS TIME THE RAPID MOVEMENT OF THE STORMS
      IS EXPECTED TO
      LIMIT THE FLOODING POTENTIAL.

      DISCUSSION...
THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS PLACED SOUTHWEST LOWER
      MICHIGAN...
SOUTH OF A MUSKEGON TO LANSING LINE...IN A SLIGHT RISK
      AREA FOR
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS TONIGHT. A WARM FRONT WILL LIFT
      BACK
NORTH INTO THE AREA OVERNIGHT AND THIS WILL BE THE
      FOCUS FOR
THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT. AT THIS TIME IT ANY SEVERE
      STORMS THAT DO
DEVELOP ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN ISOLATED.
      THUNDERSTORMS WILL HAVE A
MOVEMENT TO THE NORTHEAST AT ABOUT 40 MPH.

...HAZARDOUS WEATHER POTENTIAL OUTLOOK FOR SATURDAY
      THROUGH
      TUESDAY...

THE OUTLOOK PERIOD OF SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY WILL
      REMAIN ON THE
WARM SIDE WITH THE CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS BOTH
      SATURDAY AND EARLY
NEXT WEEK. ALL OF SOUTHWEST LOWER MICHIGAN IS IN A
      SLIGHT RISK FOR
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FOR SATURDAY. ONE ROUND OF
      THUNDERSTORMS IS
EXPECTED TO BE LIFTING NORTHWARD THROUGH THE REGION IN
      THE MORNING.
THEN A COLD FRONT WILL PUSH THROUGH DURING THE
      AFTERNOON...POSSIBLY
TOUCHING OFF A NARROW LINE OF STORMS THAT COULD
      CONTAIN DAMAGING
WIND GUSTS. LATER STATEMENTS WILL FURTHER DETAIL THE
      THUNDERSTORM
THREAT AS WE REMAIN IN AN ACTIVE PATTERN.

        200 PM EDT THU MAY 30 2002

...HAZARDOUS WEATHER POTENTIAL STATEMENT FOR THE SOUTHWEST QUARTER OF
LOWER MICHIGAN FOR THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT...

DISPATCHERS PLEASE NOTIFY YOUR EMERGENCY MANAGERS.

        HAZARDS...
SOME SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE IN SOUTHWEST LOWER MICHIGAN
THIS AFTERNOON.  THE PRIMARY THREAT AREA IS NORTH OF A LINE FROM
SOUTH HAVEN TO ALMA.  THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON COULD CONTAIN
BRIEF WIND GUSTS TO 60 MPH...ALONG WITH DIME SIZE HAIL.  LATER THIS
EVENING...A CLUSTER OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MAY MOVE ACROSS
NORTHWEST LOWER MICHIGAN...POSSIBLY INTO WEST CENTRAL LOWER
MICHIGAN.  DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL COULD ACCOMPANY THESE
STORMS.  THE STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO MOVE EAST AROUND 30 MPH.

        DISCUSSION...
THE ATMOSPHERE ACROSS SOUTHWEST LOWER MICHIGAN HAS BECOME QUITE
UNSTABLE THIS AFTERNOON.  SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL FORM
THROUGHOUT THE REGION.  A FEW OF THESE STORMS COULD BE BRIEFLY
SEVERE.  A MORE SIGNIFICANT CLUSTER OF THUNDERSTORMS CURRENTLY IN
NORTHEAST AND CENTRAL WISCONSIN...IS EXPECTED TO TRACK EAST THROUGH
THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON HOURS.  THIS SYSTEM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO
PRODUCE DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL THAT WOULD  IMPACT A MORE
WIDESPREAD AREA.  THIS CLUSTER OF STORMS IS EXPECTED TO STAY NORTH
OF A SOUTH HAVEN TO ALMA LINE.  THE COLD FRONT WILL PUSH THROUGH
LATER TONIGHT.  ADDITIONAL STORMS COULD FORM ON THIS FEATURE..AND
BRING MORE SEVERE WEATHER IN TOWARD MIDNIGHT.

        SPOTTER ACTIVATION...
SPOTTER ACTIVATION MAY BE NEEDED THIS EVENING OR EARLY TONIGHT.

...HAZARDOUS WEATHER POTENTIAL STATEMENT FOR FRIDAY THROUGH
        MONDAY...

A WAVE ON THE FRONT THAT WILL BE SOUTH OF MICHIGAN BY FRIDAY
AFTERNOON... WILL PUSH WARM AIR BACK TOWARD LOWER MICHIGAN SUNDAY.
THAT PUSH OF WARM AIR WILL BRING THE THREAT OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS LATER SUNDAY INTO MONDAY.  HEAVY RAIN AND STRONG
THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THIS WAVE ON THE FRONT... OVER
MOST OF SOUTHERN LOWER MICHIGAN DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS OF SUNDAY
INTO MID MORNING MONDAY MORNING. ONCE THE WAVE PASSES EAST OF LOWER
MICHIGAN LATER MONDAY QUIET WEATHER WILL RETURN.
