Timing of events is the crux of Vedic astrology. There are umpteen methods of timing events including the simplistic tools of progression as defined in the Manu Smriti to more complex tools called Dasa (loosely translated as periods). These Dasa are bifurcated into two types called PHALITA DASA (Fruits of present life) and AYUR DASA (Longevity and health). Another method of differentiation is on the basis of Sun Signs (called Rasi) or Moon constellations (called Nakshatra) as RASI DASA and UDU DASA respectively.
PHALITA DASA: Among the Udu Dasa the most popular and well recommended is the Vimsottari (lit.120 Year) Dasa followed by the Astottari (lit.108 Year) Dasa. Among the Rasi Dasa, the best is the Narayana Dasa. The Su-Dasa alias Rasi Dasa is also used for determining financial turns. The Lagna Kendradi Rasi Dasa and Lagna Kendradi Graha Dasa are very fine for giving the effects of the signs and planets and are also called Moola Dasa. The Paryaya Dasa are recommended for use in Shastamsa (D-6 Charts) while the Mandooka Dasa is recommended for use in the Rudramsa (D-11 Charts).

      Shankaracharya's Prayer [1]

This prayer of Adi Sankara has been taken from a smriti and gives the ultimate objective of every birth in this world at least. Thus, Sri Ramanujacharya has given the best mantra that will guide us to this penultimate goal.

The Zodiac, called the Bha-Chakra symbolises the body of Narayana in it physical aspect or Brahmanda, as viewed from the earth at the centre. The Bha Chakra is divided into two signs starting from Aries and is called the 12-petal lotus of Brahma. Since the microcosm (Nara) is the same as the macrocosm (Narayana), the Bha Chakra also represents the individual (animate/inanimate object). Thus, eight latter mantra everything that we perceive at least, is represented by the zodiac. This twelve petal lotus grows from the navel of Narayana, and these points at 00 Aries, 00 Leo and 00 Sagittarius represent the Navel (also called Brahma Nabhi) and symbolise the end/beginning. Thus, these points are called Gandanta and the two Nakshetra-Pada adjoining each navel are called Gandanta-Pada. These are (a) 00 0' to 30 20’ Aries and 260 40' to 30o 0' Pisces around the point 00 Aries; (b) 00 0' to 30 20’ Leo and 260 40' to 30o 0' Cancer around the point 00 Leo & (c) 00 0' to 30 20’ Sagittarius and 260 40' to 30o 0' Scorpio around the point 00 Sagittarius. With this emerged the concept of perfect harmony or trines (and the angle of 1200). Thus, the zodiac was divided into three types of signs as dual, movable and fixed.
The whole body of Narayana is divided into four parts called Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and Vasudeva. These parts cannot really be differentiated from the whole and are complete in themselves like dividing infinity by four, we still get infinity as the result. Thus, Narayana with Sri Shakti is called Vishnu and is of pure Satwa Guna; Narayana with Bhoo Shakti is called Brahma and is of Rajas Guna; while Narayana with Kali Shakti was called Shiva and is of Tamas Guna. These three parts are full of nectar and are imperceptible. The fourth part of Narayana is called Vasudeva. This part is both perceptible (with three Shakti i.e. Sri-Shakti, Bhu-Shakti & Kali-Shakti and three guna's intermingling) and imperceptible (with two Shakti's- Sri-Shakti & Bhu-Shakti). As Vasudeva, Narayana sustains/maintains the Brahmanda. Thus, the zodiac when used for all material/purposes would represent Vasudeva [7]
and the signs would Represent the three Gunas. All signs have all the three gunas and only one dominates. Thus movable signs have a predominance of Rajas Guna, fixed signs of Tamas Guna and Dual signs of Satwa Guna. Because of the predominant Guna, the primary deities of the Dual, movable and fixed signs were Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva respectively. However, at a later date, to differentiate these deities from the pure parts of Narayana, the latter were also called Maha-Vishnu, Param-Brahma and Sada-Shiva.
Thus, in Vedic Astrology the perceptible part of Sri Vasudeva and the three deities Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva because very relevant, by providing the perception for guidance of the individual soul. Thus, the dasa system for timing events/guiding individuals and using the three types of signs is called Narayana dasa and its three types of Chara etc. dasa are specifically meant for movable/fixed/dual sign of the ascendant for the three deities Brahma/Shiva/Vishnu respectively .
Thus, the Narayana dasa gives the impact of the environment on the native while the Vimsottari dasa gives his reaction/experience. Without the Narayana dasa, we really cannot say the direction in which the forces of nature and going to lead the native. The Vimsottari dasa, being an Udu dasa gives the state of mind/personal preparedness to deal with these directions.
Shakti literally means strength or power and specifically indicates the strength to achieve purpose. The purpose of Vishnu is to preserve the individual and Sri Shakti is his power to do the same. The strength of the lord of the second house will represent the strength of Sri Shakti and from the second lord Vishnu (or Hari Yoga) is ascertained. Thus, the second house deals with food/eating, which is necessary for survival or sustenance as well as wealth for sustenance of everything. The lord of Lagna represents Bhoo Shakti and if strong with planets in quadrants, gives Brahma Yoga. Bhoo Shakti in one aspect is Savitur or Savitri whereby she provides the means for good health and long life and as Saraswati she provides the power of knowledge, speech and intelligence. Similarly the lord of the seventh house represents Kali Shakti and Hara Yoga occurs due to it. Hence the saying "Brahma gives longevity (Ayus), Vishnu gives wealth (Dhana) Shiva gives marriage etc (Kalyana)". The Vimsottari dasa is used to judge the state of mind / self of the native, as it is also necessary to determine the availability of the means to achieve the purpose. The variation in Sri Shakti is examined from Su-dasa or Rasi dasa as it gives the level of prosperity while the variations in Bhoo Shakti (Savitri) is examined from Shoola dasa or any other Ayur dasa.
The Rasi, Navamsa (D-9) and Drekkana (D-3) are the most important divisional charts. Parasara explains that the Drekkana are ruled by Deva-Rishi Narada, Maha-Rishi Agasthya and Brahma-Rishi Doorvasha for dual / fixed / movable Drekkana respectively. Similarly fixed / dual / movable Navamsa are presided over by Shiva / Vishnu / Brahma respectively. Now for example if a planet is placed in Pisces in both Rasi and Navamsa, it is stated to be Vargottama (i.e. having acquired the best division of the sign) and connects the Satwa Guna of the sign to Sri Vishnu the presiding deity of the Navamsa. The dasa system when we examine Guru Yoga, Mantra, Diksha and renunciation etc is called Drig dasa.
Hence, for a comprehensive examination of a chart the Narayana dasa, Su-dasa, Vimsottari dasa, Shoola dasa and Drig dasa should be examined.
[1] Provided in the Bhagavad Gita with the commentary of Adi Sankara.
[2] OM is the cosmic syllable representing God
[3] Narayana is composed of two words ‘ Nara’ meaning ‘ any body ‘ and ‘ Ayana ‘ meaning ‘ Goal‘. Thus the composite word Narayana means the ultimate goal of every body both living and non-living or mobile and immobile. In a more subtle sense it refers to the individual soul (Microcosm) endeavouring to attain Union (Yoga) with the Universal Soul (Macrocosm). Thus, Narayana also means this universal soul or supreme personality of Godhead.
[4] The Unmanifest is referred to as ‘Maya’ or illusion, and in the Bhagavad Gita is called the Akshara’ (syllable), immutable Brahma. Thus, if Narayana is said to be even above this sound syllable which is the source of all creation, then Narayana is also Parambrahman or Sadasiva
[5] Brahmanda: Brahma, the dimurge God evolved from the navel of Narayana and ‘ Anda’ literally means the ‘egg. Thus Brahmanda refers to the hiranyagarbha (golden embryo – principle of cosmic evolution), whereby the universe was created. In fact ‘ All these worlds ‘ used in the prayer refers to the universe (' Virat ') composed of five elements (or rather fire states of matter/energy). These are the earth elements (solid), water element (liquids), air element (gases). Fire element (energy) and space element (ether).
[6] (Vishnu Astakshari). "OM NAMO NARAYANAYA ".
[7] Hence, Vasudeva (or Krishna) shows the path for the individual soul to merge into Narayana. The mantra for this MOKSHA / NIRVANA / EMANCIPATION has been provided in the Madhusudana Stotra. It is called Sri Vishnu Dwadasakchari " OM NAMO BHAGAVATE VASUDEVAYA."

Om Sree Vaache Namaha Om Sree Brihaspataye Namaha Om Sree Gurubhyo Namaha

      P.V.R. Narasimha Rao, SJVC

Arudha padas of various houses show the maya (illusion) associated with various houses. Arudha padas of houses are named based on the key significations of houses. For example, arudha pada of 4th house is widely referred to as "vahana pada". Similarly, arudha pada of 7th house is widely referred to as "dara pada". In Sanskrit, "dara" means wife.

According to classics, the 7th house shows marriage and wife. The true purpose of marriage is dharma and physical relationship is the maya associated with marriage. Being the arudha pada of 7th house, darapada shows the maya associated with marriage, i.e., physical relationships.

However, use of darapada is not restricted to a physical relationship. There are many divisional charts and each of them has a specific purpose. So dara pada has other purposes. Essentially, it shows the people one would associate with. Because dasamsa (D-10) is the chart of activities and achivements in society (i.e., career), darapada in dasamsa may show one’s partners and the people one would typically associate with, on account of one’s career. Darapada in chaturvimsamsa (Siddhamsa, D-24) shows the people one would typically associate with, on account of one’s education. Similarly, darapada in vimsamsa (D-20) shows the people one would typically associate with, on account of one’s religious and spiritual pursuits. Darapada shows relationships and partnerships in the matters signified by the divisional chart under examination.

A few examples of interpretation are given below. Darapada is denoted as A7.

      Example 1:

India's first Prime Minister Pundit Nehru has Venus in A7 in D-24 and Sun in A7 in D-10. This shows that he would associate with learned, cultured, diplomatic and sophisticated people and people fond of luxuries (Venus in A7), in matters of knowledge (D-24). He probably associated with such people when discussing matters related to knowledge. In career (D-10), he would associate with politicians and powerful people (Sun in A7).

      Example 2:

Pundit Sanjay Rath, parama Guru of SJVC, has darapada in Pisces in D-20 and D-24. It is occupied by Jupiter in D-24. These may be indicate his association with some swamis and religious people in the matter of intellectual and religious activities. Darapada in Pisces with Jupiter in it, in D-24, can show intellectual association with religious people or people learned in traditional sastras or people with Pisces lagna or people with a strong Jupiter.

      Example 3:

Pundit Robert Koch, an accomplished astrologer who lived the life of a monk for about two decades, has A7 in Aquarius with Rahu in it, in both D-10 and D-20 (Vimsamsa, chart of religious and spiritual deeds). This means that he would associate with philosophers (Aqaurius) and occult and religious people (Rahu) in his career and spiritual exploration.

You can find many more examples. Swami Jayendra Sarawathi has Rahu in Virgo in A7 in D-10, showing he would associate with learned (Virgo) spiritual men and monks (Rahu) in his career (D-10). US Vice President Al Gore has exalted Sun in A7 in D-10, showing association of politicians. very powerful men and kings. Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee had Jupiter in A7 in Gemini in D-10, showing association of learned educationists, judges and other respected people in career. Yasser Arafat has Sun and Saturn in A7 in D-10 and it shows association with politicians and powerful men (Sun) as well as masses (Saturn) and revolutionaries (Saturn in Ketu’s constellation). He moves with kings and Presidents as well as grass-root level workers and revolutionaries.

As you may have seen from some of the examples above, influences on darapada in dasamsa sometimes correctly reflect the nature of one’s career. After all, who one moves with in profession can speak volumes on what one does!

Thus darapada shows things other than "dara". We have to decide what an arudha pada means, based on which divisional chart we are analyzing. Arudha padas are indispensable for accurate readings. They are a very fundamental ingredient in Jyotish. Both Parasara and Jaimini gave them great importance. It is time Vedic astrologers recognized the importance of arudha padas and employed them on a regular basis.

In the last issue we had dealt with the three groups of classification of the Nakshatras depending their inherent natures and the qualities they confer on the natives born under different asterisms. Nakshatras are also classified under different groups of Yoni –determining the sex; Gana – class; and Guna – the inherent quality. It is very important to know these classifications and details too as they influence the basic qualities conferred by a nakshatra. They also help in determining the modification of the desire indicated by each graha (at a mental plane) that is disposited in a given constellation in the native’s horoscope at the time of birth.

: There are mainly three sexes and they are (i) male – Purusha Yoni (ii) female – Sthree Yoni, and (iii) Eunuch or the neuters – Napunsaka Yoni. The following is the classification of the nakshatras according to the yoni to which they belong.

Ashvini, Punarvasu, Pushya, Hasta, Anuradha, Sravana, Purvabhadrapada and Uttarabhadrapada

belong to the male sex or the Purusha Yoni. Bharani, Krittika, Rohini, Ardra, Aslesha, Magha, Purva Phalguni, Uttara Phalguni, Chitra, Swati, Vishaka, Jyeshta, Purva-ashadha, Uttara-ashada, Dhanishta and Revati belong to the female or the Sthree Yoni, while Mrigasira, Mula and Satabhishak belong to the eunuch/neuter or the Napunsak Yoni.

The significance of Yoni is very important as it shapes the thinking, nature and behaviour of the individual to a very large extent depending upon the birth star of the native as also the placement of different planets in different stars.

      Purusha Yoni

: The male natives born under the stars of Purusha Yoni will generally possess good oratorial skills, will be good doctors, writers and will have good expertise in the shastras. The will generally excel in their selected field of work. They will possess tremendous grit and drive and will accept challenges and will also meet such challenges successfully. The female natives born under this yoni will be exhibiting characters more akin to men and will be more independent although weak at heart.

      Sthree Yoni

: The male natives born under the stars of Sthree Yoni will generally lack in faith and will depend on external help to guide them most of the time and will tend to subordinate most of the times. They will generally excel in fields of research, cooking, labour and in work relating to gold, silver etc. The female natives born under the stars of this yoni will normally be good administrators, doctors etc., and they will dominate over the men folk and their partners which could be a cause for troubled married life.

      Napunsaka Yoni

: The natives born under the stars of this yoni will normally possess the dual qualities of the Purusha and Sthree yoni. The men folk born under this group of stars are generally good at menial jobs and are also good at being warriors/soldiers, surgeons etc.

: Coming to the Guna, we talk of the classification of the stars under the three gunas viz., the Sattwa, Rajas and Tamas. The planets disposited in the stars ruled by any of the guna confer on the native a mind of similar nature. This is where, I feel, the importance of the disposition of the Atmakaraka graha (who actually represents the God in the horoscope) is to be seen to determine the direction of thinking/desire of the Atma. Similarly, placement of other karakas under different stars will have to be seen to determine the mental desire of the graha and its influence on the native i.e., to see what kind of desires (of the mind) - whether satvik, rajasik or tamasik - would these planets confer on the native.

The stars under the Satvik group are Punarvasu, Aslesha, Vishaka, Jyeshta, Purva-bhadrapada and Revati. These group of stars confer a sense of purity in all thoughts and actions of the native. Persons born under these stars will be hard working and methodical and the fields they generally excel in are sports, arts and crafts etc.

The stars classified under the Rajasik group are Bharani, Krittika, Rohini, Purva-phalguni, Uttara-phalguni, Hasta, Purva-ashada, Uttara-ashada and Sravana. Rajas guna comprises high energy levels and, as such, they confer on the natives born under it a great energy level which makes them restless in life. These persons usually tend to be selfish and self-centered and more conscious about increasing their personal wealth. This gives a touch of negativity to their thinking and desires.

guna confers least energy levels (sthir or fixed nature) – a kind of fixity – to the natives born under its group of stars, which are Ashwini, Ardra, Mrigasira, Pushya, Magha, Chitra, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Satabhishak, Dhanishta and Uttara-bhadrapada. These persons generally tend to be very stubborn and fixed in their views. This could generally lead to friction in their family and normal life. Though they may be people good at heart, their general impression about being stubborn and fixed in thoughts and ideas gives a sense of negativity to their nature. People born under this group can get over these problems by meditation. The men folk born under this group of stars normally overcome this problem by the age of 40 while the women do so by 45.

: This indicates the class, or more precisely the Loka (world) to which the star is classified and it confers on the native the qualities of such loka. There are three lokas or the worlds viz., the Deva Loka or the Swarga that is ruled by the Gods; the Manushya Loka ruled by the humans and the Asura Loka ruled by the asuras/rakshas. The qualities conferred by these lokas are Deva Gana or those belonging to the divine communion; the Manushya Gana or those belonging to the human communion, and the Asura Gana or those belonging to the asura/rakshasa communion. The groups of stars that belong to the Deva Gana are Ashvini, Mrigasira, Punarvasu, Pushya, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Abhijit, Sravana and Revati. The nakshatras that belong to the Manushya Gana are Bharani, Rohini, Ardra, Purva-phalguni, Uttara-phalguni, Purva-ashadha, Uttara-ashadha, Purva-bhadrapada and Uttara-bhadrapada. The nakshatras that belong to the Asura Gana are Kritika, Aslesha, Magha, Chitra, Vishaka, Jyeshta, Mula, Dhanishta and Satabhishak.

Besides, the stars are also further classified into four groups led by the wind, fire, Varuna and Indra. The stars that belong to the group under wind are Uttaraphalguni, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Punarvasu, Mrigasira and Ashwini. The stars belonging to the group under fire are Pushya, Kritika, Vishaka, Bharani, Magha, Purvabhadrapada and Purvaphalguni. The stars belonging to the group under Indra are Abhijit, Sravana, Dhanishta, Rohini, Jyeshta, Uttara-ashada and Anuradha. Finally, the stars belonging to the group under Varuna are Revati, Purva-ashada, Ardra, Aslesha, Mula, Uttarabhadrapada and Satabhishak.

      Question 1

: I was born March 31, 1958 and the women I live with was born December 17, 1963. Will she leave me for another man or will she stay with me and live with me. Thanks for the answer

      Punditji Replies:

On the basis of the PRASNA chart, your girlfriend has been seeing this man for a few years now and has become very emotional from around March of last year. You too have been ignoring her and there have been too many quarrels initially, but now it is a state of cold neglect of each other. Thats bad. You really love her and this is seen in the fifth house position of Venus. Your finances are also a bit tight and things can improve if you can, somehow extend this break-off till after June next year...WHEN YOU LOVE SOMETHING SET IT FREE. IF IT IS YOURS IT WILL COME BACK. IF IT DOES NOT, THEN IT NEVER WAS. BEST OF LUCK..Get her some ROSES quickly.

: Could you tell me about my love life and future. Thank you.

      Punditji Replies:

Birth chart study is a professional service for which you need to approach SJVC. Based on the prasna, the present scenario is a bit depressing and some break in relationship is indicated. Wait for the rains (August) next year and you are in for a surprise. That’s a promise.

      Question 3

: I wish to give all members of my family a life-long horoscope derived from their birthdates. The thing is, I can't afford to get it drawn up for all of them. Do you know if there's a computer program that would do it? And will it be accurate? Thanks, Rob.

      Punditji Replies

:What is the point in giving them detailed horoscope calculations without someone having to read these calculations and being able to help them make this life long journey comfortable and meaningful. You can send a request to
sjvc@egroups.com or write to me at jyotish@... for these calculations. The Goravani software at www.goravani.com does give life readings, but then, this is from a computer. Jyotish is an art and a science. It is a kind of management that requires some intuition as well as indepth knowledge. If you want to help someone in the family, then do get their computerised charts, but do consult a good Vedic Astrologer with specific questions. In fact, you can gift them a consultation where they can interact with a Jyotish and get the benefit of good guidance. In any case, your thought is very honorable and I am happy to reply to a noble soul.

      Question 4

      . Am I Pregnant?

      Punditji Replies:

The Question chart has the fifth lord Venus in the sixth house of diseases with an eunuch planet Mercury. Jupiter conjoins a debilitated Saturn. The chances of a pregnancy are very negative. The first pregnancy seems to have been aborted....I am missing some birth details here and am not venturing further.

      Question 5

: Hello, I am a 29yr old female. I have always had problems in my relationships. I am currently single by choice because I refuse to put up with a lot of things some men call love. I need to know if there is something in my chart that can maybe shed some light on why I have these relationship problems. Thank you

      Punditji Replies:

You are too straight forward, fiery and honest for the liking of ordinary men. You are god-fearing and maybe spiritual also. All this is not to the liking of ordinary mortal men who have yet to evolve out of their "Animal Cages". I think you will meet the Divine Soul-mate when Jupiter transits Gemini after two years and thereafter sixteen GOLDEN YEARS await your love life..that is atleast. Marriage is a bit late..30+. For more details, do write to me for a consultation

      Question 6

I am in my early 50s. But I look like i am in my early to mid 30s. and if I wear a blond wig I look even younger. I have thought of bleaching my hair--I feel great in the wig but it is a little uncomfortable and I sing and act, so I feel if I was really a "blond" I could pull this off better. I do not look old enough for the old parts in acting so I might as well look young for the young to mid range parts. Besides, it's more fun. I put out a singing demo with me as a blond and I am sending it out. Right now I don't have an acting agent--the last one I had didn't want me in the wig--so the next one may see me as a "real" blond--what do you think? Will I have success as a rock-funk-soul singer and an actress? Some people say--hey you're too old if you pass 25 but will I convince the business I can do it? I am talented in both fields. Will I find an agent for acting again and a manager or a record deal for the singing? My birthdate: 3/28/46, 2:40am, Los Angeles.

      Punditji Replies:

Prasna Chart readings for the moment show that you do have a very good voice and Virgo rising at this time does show that you have very nice skin. Yes you do look much younger and it is always good to feel young. The Moon in the ascendant shows that you will have some fame in the later age i.e. after 50 and since you are above 50, the time seems to be ripe for this. The Sun and Mercury in the Fortune show good wealth and a lot of popularity.

Meet your agent on Wednesdays and always choose Wednesdays to sign a new contract. Success is assured. As regards the wig, you can give it a try or perhaps have a permanent hair-do. Either way success is sure to come. There seems to be some ladies who are like younger sister or friend who are jealous of you. Avoid them at all costs. Use a Pearl necklace. Best wishes.

      Question 7

: I have this friend who is having problems in her relationship and I am seriously concerned with the outcome of her decisions. She is very much in love with her man. He manipulates her and weaves her any which way he wants She is in constant fear of him leaving and need to know what the future holds for her. Is this the one or should she wait for the next one?

      Punditji Replies:

Your Friend is a very good and faithful person and is attached to someone who has been ignoring her at times and is in the habit of cribbing all the time. This has made her very afraid and insecure. This relationship will end very soon, say a few months at the most and she will find a new friend who will be quite the opposite. The new friend will be Cheerful, loving caring and very much Leonine qualities. In addition, do tell her these wise words "WHEN YOU LOVE SOMETHING, SET IT FREE IF IT IS YOURS, IT WILL COME BACK, IF IT DOES NOT, THEN IT NEVER WAS".

      Question 8

: Is Mark the guy I am in love with, going to ask me out on a date?

      Punditji Replies:

Yes Of course, within a fortnight.

      Question 9

: Dear Jyotisha Hi, I am a 21 yrs old female. Things in my life have been rather difficult the last trhee months. I broke up with the guy I use to date for almost 4 years. Well the case is that I do love him as a person but I can not see him anymore as a lover partner. Recently I met another guy with whom i dated for sometime but suddently he dissapeared from my life. Some days ago I called me x-boyfriend and we started dating again. I do not really know if i like this situation I got myself into...I am with my x-boyfriend but I think a lot of the guy that I met recently. What should I do? And what do u think about the person that I met recently? I am very confused and I do know that all this mess is all my fault. Thank you.

      Punditji Replies:

Well, well you are a sensitive and loving person and inclined to be imaginative and really capable of loving and caring. That’s a good sign of a good human being, but the two people in your life are being represented by Jupiter and Saturn in the tenth showing excessive attachment to both of them. Saturn is retrograde and shows your ex-boyfriend who has accepted you back but cannot keep you happy, while the Jupiter is a fun loving happy person who is very lucky for you. Here is the REAL TEST: Check out for yourself as to which of the two likes sweets and candies more. That person is better and lucky for you. In any case things will again change after Saturn becomes direct within a few days or a week.

This section is a new addition to the Jyotish News and will contain quotes from the Bhagavad Gita, Srimad Bhagvatam, Vedas, Upanishads, etc., and also quotes from Maharishis, Saints, famous and spiritually attained persons etc.

"Those who worship me with devotion, they are in Me and I am in them".

Bhagwan Sri Krishna in Bhagavad Gita

"A man does no attain to freedom from action by nonperformance of action, nor does he attain to perfection merely by giving up action.

No one can ever rest even for an instant without performing action, for all are impelled by the Gunas, born of Prakriti, to act incessantly …… That man, who is devoted to the Self and is content in the Self alone, for him there is nothing to do.

For him there is nothing this world to gain by action or to lose by inaction; nor does he need to depend on any being for any object….

O Partha, there is nothing for Me to accoplish; nothing there is in the three worlds to unattained or to be attained by Me, and yet I continue in action……

One should not unsettle the understanding of the ignorant who are attached to action: the man of wisdom, by steadily performing actions, should engage (the ignorant) in all right action."

Bhagwan Sri Krishna in Bhagavad Gita

"Sit before a representation of the sacred syllable OM; concentrate on it until your tears flow abundantly."

      Swami Sivananda

The article on "Hayagreeva Stotram" being written by Sri C.S. Ramanujam was erroneously concluded in the December issue of Jyotish News. The article will continue with its further verses and translation from the February 2000 issue. The error is deeply regretted.
