Dear friends:  I am greeting you from Hanoi where I am now living.  I moved here about two weeks ago and am looking forward to settling down here for a few years.  Although it is very hot and humid here, Hanoi remains a very friendly city.

I am sorry I have not had time to do more with our CJPA activities this year.  We still have not planned any activities for 2007.  I have been really very busy and just haven't put any time or thought into it.  I look to you for some suggestions what we should do this year.  As you remember, last year we focused on the issue of untouchability and had a very good exposure to it in India with the help of Goldy George.  We now have a special site on our website where we try to keep information about this issue and about the struggle of the Dalit people for their fully rights.  Tricia, whom some of you met, continues to help me keep this website up to day, but we have not added as much information as we should.  Unfortunately Tricia will be leaving in a couple of months and I willmiss the contribution she has made.  A replacement will come so I am sure the work can continue.

Friends, if you have any suggestion for our 2007 activity, please do share it with all of us.

      peace.....max

I hope you are all doing well in your work. As we are now in 2008, we need to begin thinking about what we can/should do as the Center for Justpeace in Asia

As we are now in 2008, we need to begin thinking about what we can/should do as the Center for Justpeace in Asia this year.  There are several possibilities that come to my mind.
        1.  Hold a work shop in Nepal (as we planned last year).  This will give us an opportunity to learn about the significant changes taking place in Nepal.  These changes are amazing and we can learn much from them.
        2.  Do some kind of followup on past activities - i.e. the Justpeace for Children and Youth workshop and the Indigenous Spirituality workshop.  Both need some good followup which I can not do alone.
        3.  Your ideas????

Let's do some thinking together on this.

Khun Max---In term of place I agree with the last year planned.  For the follow up on past activities I do not an idea and I am not quite sure what do you mean about this.  What I understand it is about what the participants who used to attend the workshop have been working on these 2 areas.  So if I understand correct I think we can share what we did in the past and what kind of the activities are work well and not.

I think it might be good if we can share about how do we work on transforming the injustice to justice.  It might be good if the participants can learn about this from each other.  I would like to see the justpeace talk and discuss more about transforming.  For me it is a useful tool to look at the conflict especially when people use the violence or power to deal with the conflict.  When we are under violence it seems we do not have a way to deal with the conflict.  I think the transforming idea can bring us to hope and commit for our struggle.

I hope you understand my ideas.  If I have more ideas I will share with you.  Take care.--Lek

Dear Max and all other friends,

Hope you all are doing wel.

            1. with regard to the expected workshop in Nepal, it would be done by a team. As we decided sometimes back, we can form a team to work on it. Hopefully we can have a succesful meeting. as you said, Nepal is a learning point for all of us in peace building.

            2. As my few ideas for CJPA would be

2.1 - A collection of stories/poems which develped thourgh our past activities and publish it in local languages in our countries which could be used in schools.

2.2 - A collection of songs(with visuals) of Peace/justice which would be sung in local languages with english subtitles could be distributed accross the region.

Im not sure how these ideas will be possibe for CJPA, but still if we all get togather hopefully we can do it.

            Take care

Thanks Jerome:  Your ideas are interesting.  A few months back during the School of Peace, a participant from Thailand shared a video song about two children who were close friends.  One is Muslim and one Buddhist.  It's a very moving song and I'm sure there are others like it.  This could be a good resource for us so what do the others think?  Do you have songs on vcd/dvd that speak to peace issues?  would we have enough to start making a collection?

CJPA also already has a small collection of stories and poems.  We need to expand it and also to find the best way tomake it available for use in schools, NGOs, etc.  When we meet next, we could bring more and then brainstorm how to use them.

              Thanks for the thoughts.

                  3.  Your ideas????

Let's do some thinking together on this.

I hope you are all doing well in your work.

I hope you are all doing well in your work.

I hope you are all doing well in your work.

This is great.  I think we will have an excellent team to help plan this retreat.  The team now includes Jahan Ara, Jerome, Bobby, Yam, Raihana and myself.  If other wish to help we can always accept other volunteers.

I will compile the suggestions I have received concerning possible themes for the workshop and send it to the organizing committee.  You can discuss among yourselves how you want to organize the time.

As I suggested earlier, November might be a good time.  I understand that there will be a large conference on peace held in Kathmandu in November so perhaps some of us could attend that as well.  If we wish to do so, we could arrange our workshop around the same time.  I will try to look for the dates of the conference and let you know.

let us keep in touch with our creative ideas.......max

I will try to look for the dates of the conference and let you know.

let us keep in touch with our creative ideas....... max

I will try to look for the dates of the conference and let you know.

let us keep in touch with our creative ideas....... max
