Any reason you couldn't just add '<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />' to your <head> tag, and force it to render as if IE7?
Until IE7 disappears, you'll always have to hack/account for it, so why make it so you also have to account for IE8?
