      Barb,

Just thought that I'd let you know that I'm "gearing up" for the JMT and look forward to hiking with you and Alix.  Work is crazy, and I've been going to NJ to assist my mom's during weekends.

Stay well, Thank you for the info that you share through Yahoo.

      Hi Ben,
I bought a "trial" pack and they seem really good. Good point abt the jerky- I maybe shld do that with some of my dried fruit too.

      Hi crew,
I just bought the Ziploc Vacuum Bag Kit. It comes with a pump and 3 quart sized bags. I bought 10 more bags, you can also get gallon sized bags. I think it cost around $8 or $9 at Walmart for both items. It says they are microwave safe, so I assume they will be ok when using them in the Sierra's to pour boiling water into.
Has anyone else used it? I did make some deer jerky. I made it on the dry side to last longer on the trip. When I first tried it the jerky was so brittle and sharp that it put small holes in the bag. I ended up wrapping the jerky in a paper towel and wax paper before vacuuming it and it worked great.
      Ben
