I verified with Steripen's tech support this container is ok. They've done studies with a variety of shapes of containers. Aaron told me not to rely on any single container for too long of months though as it can suffer UV degradation, the plastic over time. they're only about $1.50 a container I think. Only 1.8 oz.
It's nice to use a 1 micron (1 oz) pre-filter ($3 apiece) to get rid of the visible stuff in the water.
I use a wire cutter to clip/pull out the metal ring to bring wt of pre-filter to <= 1 oz and it then folds flat.
You need two containers, perhaps a cooking pot to pick up dirty water, pour thru the pre-filter into the ZipLoc 1 qt container. Then use the steripen on that water.
As you know a Steripen can't protect against things that are larger than crypto (like a wolf parasite or something, I forget name), but the 1 micron filter will filter those items out, as I believe the crypto is 4 microns, going from memory).
ps - this pre-filter is fantastic for hikes with normal water filters where the water is visually dirty, it will reducethe clog issue with your filter, to pre-filter with this 1 micron filter.
