      It may be too late for those already out in the backcountry, but Bob 'FourWheelBob' Coomber will be crossing the Sierras by wheelchair this coming week.

      His trailhead is Onion Valley. He'll go up and over Kearsarge Pass, going south on the JMT to Vidette Meadow and Bubb's Creek. Then he'll leave the JMT and exit out at Road's End.

        Bob had manageable but show-stopping medical issues on the trail and had to abort his hike. He will surely make the attempt again.

            You can read what happened to Bob on this trip on his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/4wheelbob.  Scroll down to a 9/25 post by  Bob Fourwheelbob Coomber (can't figure out how to link to a specific public post on Facebook).  Basically, his insulin pump failed to deliver his necessary insulin and he had to retreat back down Kearsarge Pass to get to the hospital.  As if being in a wheelchair wasn't enough of an obstacle.
