      Snow shoes in hard pack are more or less useless. When you are traversing a slope you need the snowshoes to be able to kick in more or less flat. If the sit on top of a 25 degree slope your ankles will quickly tell you they arent happy.

      I think I would go crampons if I felt I had to have traction devices.
