Re: [John Muir Trail] Side Trip to Seven Gables
- Thanks! It was an incredible trip - 9 days, four peaks, mostly cross-country travel where we encountered only a handful of people. One of the best sierra trips I've done. Seven Gables was just the icing on top. :)On Sat, Feb 26, 2011 at 3:20 PM, Karpani <karpanilove@...> wrote:

I climbed Seven Gables last summer, but came from the east (via Italy Pass/Dancing Bear Pass).Report from Bear Lakes Basin (including Vee Lake): http://calipidder.com/wp/2010/10/bear-lakes-basin-tour-bear-lakes-loop-day-3/And the climb of Seven Gables (using east chute - from JMT might take a different approach): http://calipidder.com/wp/2010/10/seven-gables-13160-ft-bear-lakes-loop-day-4/

I am considering a side trip off the JMT to the Seven Gables. I understand there is a lake below the Gables that makes an excellent camping spot.
Does anyone have experience with this side trip? How far off the JMT and which lake to camp by? I have maybe a day to play with getting up there, spending the night, and back to the JMT.
