JMT hike in May/June
- Wandering Bob's advice is VERY good. Mammoth Mountain has 600+ inches
of snow with plans for open ski lifts well into July this summer.
Last year Tioga Road opened on June 24th. There is more snow this
year than last in Yosemite and north. Waiting until late June,
you'll still find miles of open snow and very difficult stream
crossings; the descent from Silver Pass will be dangerous, Silver Pass
Creek, Mono Creek, BEAR CREEK and Evolution Creek crossings all will
be dangerous. You will be wet all of the time; not some of the time,
but all of the time. Thunderstorms will arrive early in the day and
last longer into the afternoon/evening. Good luck.
