Re: [John Muir Trail] The 'bearier 700' - new bear canister
- I asked Zac Rubenstein, who makes the egg-shaped bear canister discussed in this thread, about approval prospects. He has allowed me to forward his reply.
I think he's being over-optimistic about how fast the NPS bureaucracy will move at Yos and SEKI, but here's his hopes:

I saw that there was talk on the Yahoo JMT group but haven't had a chance to reply (been super busy answering all the questions since the OR show!). I plan on trying to create a yahoo account when I've got a spare moment, but in the mean time it would be great if you could refer people to these threads where we've tried to address most of the questions (again, and ongoing effort).
We're hoping to be legal in all of California by May or June. Based on conversations I've had with the members of the approval committee, we should be fine as long as we pass the IGBC test, which we're fairly confident in. In any case, we're burning the midnight oil trying to get this thing in production and approved by the early summer. Also, be sure to keep checking out website (camp4outdoors.com) and our facebook/twitter, as we'll be updating them with all launch-related news.
Thanks for the interest!
