Re: Grand Canyon hiking - Herb and John
On the GC trip, yes we are hooked up with a permit. We will come down the New Hance then Escalante Route to Palisades. Day hike out to the LC, then up Tanner. We leave around March 25 or so.
Funny you mention the long Tonto hike--I have eyed that hike for a couple years...
The Lewis and Clark route sounds interesting--got some links or info to look at on that?
I have been eyeing the Teton Crest, maybe expanding it by starting somewhere in the Jed Smith Wilderness.

> So, you're considering a hike to the LCR (Little Colorado River)?! I do (already!) have a permit to hike down the Tanner, stay at Palisades (day hike to the LCR from here), and return to Tanner Beach, then continue West (not East, but down river, West) onto the Escalante Route, the Tonto Trail, and out Grandview in April.
> I may have a one or two person spot on the permit - assuming the NPS allows me to expand the permit number.
> Assuming you may desire some info about the area, here are three reports that contain maps and show the route. The TTT (Transcendental Trans-Tonto) shows the Tanner to Cottonwood section, the Bodacious Beamer report shows Tanner to LCR, and the Grapevine Galleria report shows the section from Cottonwood to the rim.
> Also, Herb, are you considering the Teton Crest? I hiked there many, many years ago, and I would like to hike this trail again. Also, I am pondering a hike of the Lewis and Clark route over the Lolo Trail in Idaho/Montana. Any interest to hike in these spots?
