Tuolumne Meadows for sure has MSR Isobutane for the Pocket Rocket, etc. I was just there on Sunday. I finished maybe half an 8 oz can on my hike to Red's Meadow. I ate 1-2 Mountain House ProPack meals a night, plus a couple of MH breakfast meals that required water. I also had several 8 oz servings of instant coffee over my five days on the trail. My advice is to take only what you need to get to the next resupply point. I will definately be reevaluating my approach to the hike. I did the Valley to Red's Meadow from July 28th to August 1, if there is anything else I can help with, let me know. Take care.

Subject: [John Muir Trail] availibility of gas canisters at resupply points on the jmt

Can anyone fill me in on the availability of compressed gas canisters
(msr, primus, etc) at the resupply points?

Can you get them in Tolumne, Reds, VVR?

Also, does anyone have a feel for number of liters of boiled water per
canister (what size canister) at the elevation of the trail? I know
what I can get at sea level on the east coast but have no way of
knowing how it will perform at elevation.

      Thanks in advance
