Hey kids! Guess What!
Here's a nifty disappearing trick.
If you are reading this message before August 7th,
following these introductory remarks will be an
attached message, a copy of the Special Notice Yahoo
has sent to all group moderators about
Exciting! New! Changes!
which are being implemented as part of their ongoing
effort to provide "high quality service".
Chiefly among these changes:
"Message attachments: Yahoo will continue to deliver
all attachments sent via e-mail, however, the
attachments will no longer be archived in the Messages
After August 7th all attachments in the messages area
will be removed and Yahoo will be unable to retrieve
There's more cool stuff, like telling group owners if
they want to preserve the attachments in their message
section they have about six days to move it all to
their Photos or Files sections.
Now for the group I moderate, Bound_To_Please, this
will have very little affect. There are over 800
pictures in the Photos section folders, only about 44
in the message archives.
For many other "photo trading" groups, which have
hundreds or thousands of pictures in the message
section and few or none in the photos and file areas,
this change will be devastating.
But here at Jump The Shark people very rarely attach
pictures to thier messages. So this won't affect us,
Welll... it doesn't say photos, it says "attachments."
So, if you come to the JTS group site and click on
"reply" or "Post" and write a message here, your
message will continue to be archived.
If you write an e-mail message and send it to
it will continue to be archived.
However, if you write something on your computer using
WordPad, NotePad or any word processing software, save
it as a file, then attach that file to an e-mail AS AN
ATTACHMENT... or if you have been in the practice of
doing that in the past... then those messages will be
GONE as of 8/7/03.
Are you happy about this? Does it seem like a good
idea to you? Do you object? Well, fageddaboutit.
Kiddos, it's not time to panic. That time is past.
At one time every message (except a few deleted
flamers) ever sent to this group was archived in the
messages area. In less than one week that time will be

"Please do not reply to this message via e-mail, as
responses will not be read.

Very nice, but at least they mean it sincerely. Oh
well, they're a business, not a democracy.
In case I'm over-reacting or have mis-interpreted
their message, here is the complete text, as an
If I'm right you have until midnight on August 7th to
