      From a non-academic:

      Scenario.
AuthorFG wants to allude to the
      Exodus narrative, beginning with
      the Passover and concluding on
the other side of the sea (the
      second Bread of Life discourse
seems to allude to the Passover,
and the first to the manna
      mentioned after the crossing).

What bodies of water does he have
to choose from: Dead Sea, Jordan
      River, Sea of Galilee?

      Perhaps the Sea of Galilee
was the only one that would provide
      (1) a big enough body of water,
      (2) a large enough Jewish audience
for the feeding of the 5000, and
      (3) a setting (the synagogue at
      Capernaum) suitable for the follow-up
      discourse.
