        Not at this point, if you use the tests sold by Family Tree DNA and
        other consumer-oriented services. What you can do is see if you're
        closely related (within 500 years or so) to other Jewish people, and
        whether you have gene types that are particularly common among the
        Jewish folks who've submitted cell samples to the testing companies'
        databases.

        But the databases are still really small. In the long run, it's easier
        to do genealogy with a rare type (as with a rare surname), but it's
        harder to find a match if you have a rare type.

        On the other hand, if you have a bunch of guys named Katzen or a bunch
        of women who might be matrilineal descendants of Bubbe Beila, Family
        Tree DNA has some tests that can really help you a lot.
