EDITOR'S CORNER
===============
Holy moly -- this is our twenty-fifth newsletter. And, to celebrate,
Monica and I have decided to unload upon you a number of delectable season
two exclusives. I hope you don't mind.
First of all, just to make sure we're all on the same footing, we'd like
to reiterate that season two will begin on October 10th at 10 pm (ET/PT),
with the season one pilot airing right before at 8 pm. If you see any
promotional material, please drop either one of us a line so we can let
everyone else know.
Monica has updated a LOT of information -- this is stuff you'll want to
see, including: quotes from JMS, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Luke Perry (oh,
gosh, I hope they put him in tight pants this season), episode updates,
spoiler-free episode descriptions and cast lists for "Letters from the
Other Side," the season premiere. There are more updates than Bush has
little... um, excuse me, than Carter has little liver pills.
Plus, get your grubby fannish hands (hey! don't shove! line up! hey, get
off my toe! thank you) on new season two promotional clips.
For all of the above, please check the "What's New At The Abyss" section.
AND -- not to mention -- we've archived spoiler goodness for a number of
season two episodes, including "Letters from the Other Side," the season
premiere we'll see at the end of this week. For this, and for clips from
this knock-your-socks-off season premiere (trust me, I've read it),
clickety-click to here and don't tell any lawyers:
http://abyss.hubbe.net/jeremiah/gallery/clips_s2.html
I've read the spoilers. I couldn't help my poor, Jeremiah-deprived self. I
must say that this season seems poised to win. It's going to be a lot
different than last season, and right off the bat there are going to be
some gut-wrenching, crazy, hellish things happening: a daring plot, a
noble (or ignoble, depending on your perspective) sacrifice, fear,
courage, and just a little bit of kookiness.
For those of you purists who don't want to be spoiled, check out the
spoiler-protected summaries here:
http://abyss.hubbe.net/echo/viewtopic.php?t=421
http://abyss.hubbe.net/echo/viewtopic.php?t=422
And, yeah, we're always out to promote one of our favorite ex-Minbari, so
we've decided to let you know that Alex Zahara (the poor, dead,
ex-Ezekiel, boo-hoo) has a website. It's not quite finished yet, so don't
kick the Webmaster. Also, someone claiming to be Alex has posted on
B5TV.com that there's a "big announcement" coming up at the end of the
week. We can't even begin to speculate what it is, but if you want to,
heave ho.
So, what are you waiting for? Get thee to our website! S2 is about to
begin!

SEASON TWO NEWS
===============
This just in! Sci Fi Weekly has published a great review of the two part
season two premiere, Letters From the Other Side. They gave it a rating of
"B" and revealed some interesting spoilers for the first two episodes. If
you don't want to read it before you watch the episodes yourself, here are
some excerts from the review:
---
The thing about Jeremiah that sets it apart from other treatments of the
future is how thoroughly the series embraces its gritty reality. It
doesn't slink away from the unpleasant, grungy side of anarchy, the fact
that people die, that people play both sides of the fence, and that
somewhere, buried in the darkness, is the very human hope for building a
better future.
This two-part arc is tightly constructed, and deftly reintroduces viewers
to Jeremiah's universe.a good thing, considering the lengthy hiatus
between the end of last season and the premiere of season two. I found
myself pulled in, wanting to find out more about Valhalla Sector and
Jeremiah's father, and even though I was disappointed that not all of my
questions were answered, I look forward to seeing where Straczynski is
taking season two.

SEASON ONE NEWS
===============
Don't forget that the Canadians get to see Jeremiah this fall on the
Global network which is similar to the cable network in the States because
it relies on commercials to generate revenue. Canada does have less strict
policies on nudity and language as long as they are shown after 9pm. The
only online schedule has updates about a week in advance so do let us know
if you spot anything better.
The folks at the NW-B5 mailing list have told The Abyss that the first
season of Jeremiah which is airing on Global has edited out the sex,
violence, and nudity. We are intrigued to hear about a toned down version
of our favorite post-apocalyptic dysfunctional family drama and we're
pretty sure that's the version we'll eventually see in the U.S at some
point. Also, a listmember told Monica that none of the "bad stuff"
directly related to the plot was removed, and that the lawless, vicious
society we all know and love is still accurately portrayed in the censored
version. Read their comments:

JEREMIAH CAST NEWS
==================
Alex Zahara attended Gatecon a few weekends ago and "Ziggy" reported this:
---
I have uploaded a photo of me and Alex from Gatecon. In case you can't
read what he wrote, it says 'Thank you for picking ME!!!'. He seemed
genuinely pleased that I was so excited to be meeting him. I absolutely
love 'Jeremiah' and I spent most of the weekend trying to get him to spill
if he will be in season 2 (if freaking Showtime ever starts the damn
thing, but that is another rant).
Alex story :
I had asked him during a panel if he was going to be in season two of
Jeremiah. He just kept saying he could not say. Top secret stuff and all
that. When I was getting my photo I said to him, "We are alone now so you
can tell me if you are going to be in season 2". He said, "I can't say but
I can give you a signal and if you figure it out, great. I will wink once
for 'maybe' and once for 'I don't know'". He then winked once at me and I
smacked him on the arm while we both laughed. It was at that moment I had
to add him to my list of Gatecon boyfriends.
---
He also has an official web site which is still not quite finished but
there are some great photos including some of Monica's photos of Alex:

Emma Wall of Stargate Alpha conducted an interview with Peter Stebbings
(Markus Alexander) for an upcoming magazine that will be available
exclusively at the next L3 Convention, Alternate Universe in the UK this
November. The full interview will be available online after the convention
but in the meantime, here are a few excerpts she has made available:
---
Q: If you could play ANY character in any show or film or book, who would
it be and why?
A: James Bond. Why? Well... something about the clothes, the cars and the
women I guess. But we'd have to go back to simpler scripts. More spy and
less explosions. It's getting a little silly for my tastes. The Spy Who
Loved Me. Does it get better than that? But I grew up on Roger Moore. Sean
was dead cool though. I like him too. Sorry, what was the question? Oh
yeah. I'd take another crack at MacBeth if someone gave me the chance. I
don't think there's ever been a quintessential performance of MacBeth.

NEW AT THE ABYSS
================
There have been so many changes to the web site recently that it is going
to be hard to list them all. A huge update is to the season two episode
list that was published on MGM's web site which also included photos for
most of those episodes.
We have also done some rearranging on the site for all the episode pages
that is no longer based on production number but episode number instead.
Hopefully, this will be easier to follow in the future and maintain for
us. Let us know if you find any broken links or things that don't make
sense.

We recently received MGM's newsletter in our inbox and were disappointed
to see there was no mention of Jeremiah. They have a section for TV shows
and they highlighted SHE SPIES, DEAD LIKE ME and STARGATE SG-1. Still, we
clicked on the link for the HTML version of the newsletter and were
surprised to see that there was actually a mention for Jeremiah:

Don't miss the Season 2 premiere of Jeremiah, starring Luke Perry and

News: JMS leaves Jeremiah behind
JMS SPEAKS
==========
Sep.27.2003
-----------
Did you know Amazon has a page up for 'Straczynski Unplugged'? Check out.
http://tinyurl.com/owa2
No, I didn't know they'd already begun taking orders on that one.
...and if you have *any* idea what's supposed to be depicted on the cover,
could you let us know?
I think it's my lower intestinal tract after finishing Jeremiah year 2.
Any chance you can give us more info on definite titles and short blurbs
for each? Should we all get physicals before this starts to make sure our
hearts can stand it?
At this point, with the show's debut so near, best to just let the show
speak
for itself. But it's pretty cool, I have to say.
Sep.27.2003
-----------
The second season of Jeremiah will debut on Showtime on October 10th at
10:00 p.m. (a much better time slot than 10:45) with "Letters from the
Other Side, Part One," and I commend you to this season whole-heartedly. I
think it's stronger than the previous season. There's more of a clean
through-line to the story, less in the way of stand-alones, there are a
lot of changes awaiting our characters, and the show looks great. Of the
15 episodes this season I wrote 13, so there's a real sense of continuity
there. And this year we're joined by Sean Astin, currently appearing in
the Lord of the Rings movies.
(As stated, I've opted not to return if there's a third season, but a)
that has nothing to do with the quality of this season, which is terrific,
and b) what some people, from the postings I've seen, don't seem to quite
get is that this is more the norm than not. Lots of people come on, create
a show, get it up and running, and either leave after the first season or
the second, sometimes even just launching the show and moving away in the
first season. That's the nature of TV. You generally do a couple of years
here and a couple of years there. There are exceptions to this of course,
situations where creators opt to stick around for the duration, but in
most cases people move on. So this ain't a big deal.)
