      WEBMASTER'S CORNER
      ===================================
I hope everyone is going to have a good Mother's Day weekend and if you
haven't planed something already, then you better make a note to at least
call your mother! I am making dinner for my family so I better keep my
ramblings short so I can clean the house and start cooking.

We do apologize for taking so long at getting this newsletter out this
time but things have been crazy for me at work and Channe has been up to
her eyeballs with work as well. I have been waiting for her to lend her
expert touch to this newsletter but I cannot wait any longer.

There is one thing I do want to talk about which is our new Forums that we
opened up recently at THE ABYSS. They are mostly Jeremiah focused but we
do welcome many other topics as well. Adding a forum has been something
which I had been considering for some time and only wanted to implement
one if I could see the value of adding it to both the users and myself. I
felt that there were not enough quality Jeremiah focused discussion forums
and also it helped me consolodate all the news bits that have been
scattered across the site as well. Finally, it has enabled me to move most
of the content from this Yahoo!Group to the forums and I was able to
fully integrate it with the rest of my web site.

This brings up another dilemma I have been grappling with ... whether or not
I should keep this Yahoo!Group active. I have created HTML versions of all
the past newsletters on our forums which are ad free and are hopefully
easier to read as well. It takes a lot of work to format the newsletter
in text and HTML formats so I am considering only doing the HTML version.
You would no longer receive the text version of the newsletter in your
INBOX but instead a URL where you can view the newsletter online. There is
the option of sending out email notifications from the forums itself so I
really don't need this Yahoo!Group except everone here would have to
register on THE ABYSS forums and sign up for the newsletter notifications
there. I could keep this group because many people already know about it
and use it to send out the newsletter notifications but I want to get your
opinions about it first. Look for a new poll soon!

Without further ado, here is the URL to check out the new forums which are
known as ECHOS FROM THE ABYSS:

      SHOWTIME SPEAKS
      =============================
Showtime recently updated their answer about when Jeremiah will return to
their schedule. They are however airing encore episodes on the channel
SHOWTIME BEYOND so see our Coming Attractions section below for more
      details.

      Question
      --------
Why isn't Jeremiah repeated at some point during the week? And will the
      entire season be rerun?

      Answer
      ------
Thank you for your comments. We value all the comments we receive from our
subscribers and we're glad you took the time to share your opinions with
us. I am forwarding your email to the programming department, as they
should be aware of the strong viewer support of this show. Encore episodes
will be on hiatus for the Spring of 2003.

DEAD LIKE ME (Showtime) - The pay channel will debut its new sci-fi drama
on Sunday, June 29 at 10:00/9:00c with a special 90-minute premiere.
Here's how Showtime describes the series:

From creator Bryan Fuller ("Star Trek: Voyager," "Carrie") comes this
comically offbeat original series about Georgia "George" Lass (Ellen
Muth), a disaffected teenager who's surprised discover that an afterlife
really exists after she's struck and killed by a piece of the MIR space
station that hurtles to Earth. There, she finds that she's been assigned
to be a "reaper," delivering souls to their eternal reward under the
watchful eye of her boss Rube (Mandy Patinkin). Rebecca Gayheart, Jasmine
Guy, Callum Blue and Cynthia Stevenson costar.

Showtime has committed to 15 episodes of the drama (the 90-minute debut is
actually the first two episodes back-to-back). The cable channel has yet
to announce its permanent time slot (regular Sunday, 10:00/9:00c time slot
holder "Queer as Folk" is being pre-empted on June 29).

      FACTOIDS
      ===============
      * Filming of season two wrapped on April 3rd, 2003
      * Jeremiah crew members often go around quoting the show on the set
      * A cast extra stopped by THE ABYSS forums:

      NEW AT THE ABYSS
      ===============================
We finally got our hands on the DETAILS magazine that Tim Truman told us
about and it features a large advertising section for Showtime. It
features Luke Perry and Malcolm-Jamal Warner looking incredibly yummy by
showing off some of the latest fashions. We scanned these photos and have
added them to our GALLERY here:

      MEDIAWATCH
      ===================
A few weeks ago, SciFi Weekly's Newsletter featured a column by Michael
Cassutt titled "Musical Writers". It was about how writers and show
runners stay employed during the down time. The column featured a little
blurb about Jeremiah and a photo of our man Jeremiah:

Comics2Films reported nothing major new but there are a few things worth
      mentioning:

On one episode Astin will be pulling double duty, stepping behind the
camera as well as in front. Astin has directed the 13th episode of the new
      season.

"Jeremiah" returns to ShowTime in August.

Some great news from Ingrid's official web site:

Ingrid has finished the second season of Jeremiah. She was also able to
shot a movie in Edmonton this past spring, "Whitecoats". It was written
and directed by Dave Thomas. With cameos by Dan Aykroyd, Dave Foley and
      others.

Ingrid has also been nomineed for a Leo Award, for best actress in a Short
      Film.

There is an article about JR Bourne who played Stenn in the episode THE
TOUCH. They talk a little about his role on Jeremiah and also his
friendship with Peter Stebbings. They also have a link to THE ABYSS since
there is a photo they took from the site. Very nice of them! Here are some
      quotes from the article:

Did you meet Peter Stebbings on the set of Madison? Are you good friends?

Yes, Pete and I first met while doing Madison, and are very good friends!!
He's living here with his beautiful girlfriend obviously doing his show
(Jeremiah) and we'd love to do a movie together SOON!!!

      ----

Jr played Stenn in a first season episode of the Sci-fi Jeremiah, which is
where his friend Peter Stebbings plays the recurring character of Markus.
It's a darker sci-fi and I would recommend you take the time to watch it.
Oddly enough, Jeremiah is filmed next door to Stargate SG-1!

Jr auditioned for the role of Stenn, who is a misguided leader of a
village hell bent on stopping anyone from touching at all. Stenn and his
council stoned a young man to death for touching his girlfriend… well ok,
he was doing more than touching! His face is a picture at the end when
Jeremiah touches him, so horrified! Priceless...He didn't die though! What
      a result.

Better late than never and it is somewhat Jeremiah related, but Variety
reported that Daniel Gillies (who played Simon in the season one pilot):

New Zealand actor Daniel Gillies will star as Kirsten Dunst's love
interest in Columbia Pictures' "Spider-Man 2."

      JMS SPEAKS
      ===================
      May.3.2003
      ----------
"When you are writing a scene down, do you visualise it in your mind:
      before,during or after?"

I'm a big believer in what Mark Twain once said...you should never begin
writing something until you have finished it to your satisfaction.

When I start a scene, I don't type a word. I play it through my head from
beginning to end, over and over, until I know exactly what happens, how I
get into it, how I get out of it, and what happens in between. Once I can
see it as a whole, *then* I begin writing.

So if you were to poke your head in my office, if I'm not typing, what
you'd probably see is this: me in my desk chair, halfway reclined, eyes
closed, one hand over my eyes, playing the scene over and over in my head
like a mini-movie, seeing it behind closed eyes.

People without tact assume that I'm sleeping, but I'm not, dammit, I'm
      not....

A number of folks have asked in email for more particulars about the
WonderCon appearance. I've finally gotten a schedule, and the details are:

      Friday: autographs 4-5:30 Exhibit Hall
Saturday: spotlight 2:30 room 134, autographs 3:30 exhibit hall, panel
      5:00 room 131
      Sunday: Panel (w/ R.A. Salvatore) 12:00, autographs 2:00.

(I'm only bringing a fairly limited number of Sleeping in Light scripts,
so they may go pretty fast on Friday and Saturday.)

The panel with RA is on world-building, which should be fun.

      More info at www.wondercon.com

This is only the second year that the folks responsible for San Diego
Comic Con have been running WonderCon, and because I've always had a soft
spot in my heart (or head) for that group, I'm giving them all the advance
PR I can. If SDCC is any indication, it should be a fun convention. (My
only other convention appearance this year will be at SDCC this coming
      July 18th weekend.)

Just a word to let any folks who might be interested know that I'll be a
guest at WonderCon in San Francisco the weekend of April 25th. They've got
me on a fair number of panels and a spotlight, plus some autograph
sessions. This is the first San Francisco convention I've done in many
years, and it may be a while before the next one 'cause I only do one or
two a year (WonderCon is run by the xame cool folks who run San Diego
      Comic Con).

      CONCLUSION
      ===================
I am glad word is spreading about my site since more and more people who
are looking for Jeremiah information come here. I have been pleasantly
surprised at the number of people who have been recommending THE ABYSS in
the RASTB5M newsgroup lately. It saves me the trouble of posting and
promoting my own site which is very hard to do. Thanks to all of you who
      have helped spread the word!

We congratulate Mike Helba and his informative Worlds of JMS web site
(http://www.worldsofjms.com) as it was nominated for this month's "Top
Picks" in MGM's SciFi Newsletter. We would love to get nominated as well
but it has to come from loyal visitors like you. All you have to do is
      send an email to: scifi@...

We haven't forgotten about the Solarcade interview but we just haven't had
time to do anything about it. Keep those questions coming!
