EDITOR'S CORNER
===============
As the world teeters on the edge of war, we send you another newsletter
filled with preservative-free spoiler goodness about a show detailing a
world teetering on the edge of war.
Tons of info from our charming cast this week. Here's the lowdown:
* Byron talks below!
* THE ABYSS recently received an e-mail from the lovely Enid-Raye Adams,
who has been working her tail off since Babylon 5: Legend of the Rangers
went bust last year. She's been cast as a recurring role in Jeremiah's
Season Two, and let THE ABYSS in on some spoilers about her character.
She also posted some behind-the-scenes pictures on her website. Check
below Byron Lawson's interview for the goodies.
* There are some really GREAT luscious Season Two tidbits in the MGM
newsletter this month. We've been given a name for Joanne Kelly's
character -- Libby -- and are told that Jeremiah gets a surprising
reaction from his father, Devon. Again, the goodies are stashed below.
* A few of our readers sent us the answers they received from Showtime's
helpline, and they're, disappointingly, much the same: No Jeremiah for
the months of March and April. We thank those who forwarded the info to
us, and the only other tidbit we could get a hold of came from MGM who
are saying it is "coming this summer." That could mean May, June or July
but we will inform you of the airdate as soon as we hear something.
* Ingrid Kavelaars (Erin), who has been doubly busy working on a new Dan
Akroyd movie and promoting the Stephen King flick "Dreamcatcher," told
us that she might answer some of our burning Season Two inquiries.
Hopefully, we'll have more on our gal next issue.
Again, thanks for reading. As always, we appreciate feedback both positive
and negative.

BYRON LAWSON INTERVIEW (PART 1 of 2)
====================================
A little while ago, Byron Lawson sat down and answered some of our ABYSS
cast questions -- even though we bet he would rather be torturing us.
Here's our exclusive interview, where Byron talks about Lee, the film
world, his granduncle's involvement, and dealing with Sci Fi fans.
THE ABYSS: When you're eighty and sitting on the porch of the Old Folks'
Home, what's the one memory from your time on Jeremiah that you'll tell
your fellow octogenarians over and over again?
BYRON LAWSON: That it was a BLAST to work on this show. The entire
Jeremiah family (crew, staff, cast, etc.) is just so tight. Luke and
Malcolm are a joy to work with. We are all always joking and laughing at
work.
ABYSS: Vital stats: Age, birthplace, education, notable previous roles?
BYRON: I was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. So it's a real treat to
be able to work out of home. The Corruptor was an incredible project,
because I got the opportunity to work with my childhood hero Chow Yun Fat.
ABYSS: Lee Chen is easily Jeremiah's most controversial character. Is he
*really* loyal to Markus? Is he a Valhalla Sector operative? Is he both at
once? Is his ultimate goal like Ezekiel's - to protect Jeremiah by keeping
him away from the truth? Do you enjoy knowing that you torture your
audience completely like this?
BYRON: I'm being tortured just as much as the audience, because I really
have no idea where Lee is going. Sometimes I truly think he is loyal to
Marcus, then I get the script and "BAM" it goes the other way. The way Joe
[Straczynski] writes things, his story arcs go all over the place in such
a way to keep everyone guessing at all times, but IT ALL makes complete
sense. "I LOVE TORTURING THE AUDIENCE"
ABYSS: What's your favorite thing about Lee? What are the special
challenges you face in portraying Lee that haven't cropped up in other
roles? How different are you and Lee - and how much the same? Tell us
about him.
BYRON: My favorite thing about Lee is that he is such an asshole, which is
awesome to play. Lee is a very complex character. Sometimes I have no clue
what the fuck he is doing. Yet when we play he just seems to come out and
I go "wow what a dick," then he does something honorable and I think
"cool!" I just play him like he's written and stuff starts to happen. Lee
and I are very different. He is this stiff anal dude, and I'm sorta laid
back.
ABYSS: What are your hidden talents - can you do any "stupid human
tricks?"
BYRON: I grew up playing Ice Hockey since I was 7 years old. Went to
school on a hockey scholarship. Also went to Sweden and Finland to play
for while. I have many Stupid and Gross human tricks, which I'm sure we
all do.
ABYSS: How were you cast on Jeremiah? What was the audition process like?
What was the first thing you did when you found out you got this part?
BYRON: I had to Audition just like everyone else. It first started maybe
around a year prior to us shooting the pilot. I had to put something on
tape for this project called "Jeremiah", which I didn't know much about.
In fact the original audition was for the role of David (now Marcus
Alexander). After we did this, we never heard anything else and heard the
project was on hold, so I forgot about it.
Then maybe 5 months passed, and I auditioned for the role of "Kurdy",
never heard anything again. Another few months go by and I find out Luke
and Malcolm are on the project. I get brought back again for "Lee
Takashima" and I guess it went well, cause I had to go back a couple more
times. Finally I found out that I got the role. "I FREAKED THAT
DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
The day I went in for wardrobe Joe asked if I was Chinese or Japanese, so
I told him I was Chinese. He asked how I felt about changing the
character name to match my background. I felt very honored that he did
this, cause it really meant a lot to me. Many times in this game people
view yellow as yellow. I really appreciated Joe's offer to change the
character for this reason. In fact "Lee Chen" is my Grand Uncle's name
who fought in the war for a very elite team during WWII. So as you can
see it really meant a tremendous amount to me. Thank you, Joe!!!!!
ABYSS: Did you know before you were hired for the show how loyal sci-fi
fans have a reputation for being? How do you feel about knowing that you
now have fans following your career because of your work on Jeremiah?
BYRON: I had no idea what the sci-fi world was like. It's freakin'
awesome! There is no limit. It's crazy. I just hope everyone realizes Lee
is Lee and I'm not! But I'm having a kick ass time playing him.
More next issue!
ENID-RAYE ADAMS ON SEASON TWO
=============================
Modern sci-fi regular Enid-Raye Adams tells us a bit about her new
recurring character, Gina, and how long it took for her land a role on the
show.
She has been having "a blast" working on the show with the three main
actors (Luke Perry, Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Sean Astin) and tells us
that, "they are wonderful gentlemen and the crew is just fabulous."
Enid-Raye also mentioned that she got to work with three great directors
("amazing" Mario Azzopardi, "old pal" Michael Vejar and Milan Cheylov) as
well as writers Samm Barnes and J. Michael Straczynski.
Getting cast in Jeremiah was a long and difficult road for Enid-Raye since
"awesome dude" Joe Straczynski has been trying to get her involved since
day one. The right role kept elluding her since some of the characters she
tried out for were Claire in "To Sail Beyond The Stars", Michelle in
"Mother Of Invention", Libby in season two and Leader One in season two's
"The Question". However, we are very glad she was persistent about getting
on the show since she ended up being rewarded hansomely with a spunky
character who appears in five episodes.
It turns out we have Samm Barnes to thank for her finally landing a role
in Jeremiah as she asked Enid-Raye to audition for Gina at the last
minute. As Enie describes it, "I didn't know much about this character,
but Mario Azzopardi was in the room, raking me over the coals! (Which is
how I do my best work... hehehe) It just sort of went my way."
Enid-Raye explains who Gina is and what makes her tick without giving too
much away, "She's a ballsy little spitfire, tough and a fighter. She's
probably had to do some things you wouldn't want to talk about to survive
in the world after the big death. In "The Question", Gina makes her first
appearance as a new recruit to Thunder Mountain and is trained for battle
by Kurdy. This woman can handle herself and can take the piss out of the
best of them (especially guys much bigger than her!). In "The Past is
Prologue", she becomes Jeremiah's liason at Millhaven. One of her favorite
things to do is to get up in his face, bugging the hell out of him,
choosing the worst possible moments to do so. It'll be interesting to see
where Gina's travels will take her."
If you want to keep an eye out for this spitfire character, here is the
list of episodes she will be appearing in:
The Question -- directed by Mario Azzopardi
The Past Is Prologue -- directed by Michael Vejar
Interregnum (Part 1) -- directed by Michael Vejar
State Of The Union -- directed by Milan Cheylov
Interregnum (Part 2) -- directed by Michael Vejar
We encourage you to visit Enid-Raye Adams offical site where you get an
insight into her quirky sense of humor and examples of her work as well.

The grim and unremitting world of J Michael Straczynski's Jeremiah comes

A double bill of Jeremiah this month as we talk to Peter Stebbings and
Ingrid Kavelaars about playing Thunder Mountain residents Markus and Erin.
Kavelaars: "First of all, Peter is like a brother to me. He and I have
been friends a long time. Peter and my identical twin sister were
roommates for years in Toronto before he came to Vancouver to do Jeremiah.
And, in fact, Peter is married to one of my closest and dearest friends."

Here's two old articles we found posted at Cinescape. Part one of "Meeting
Jeremiah" is especially interesting -- because the second 90210 name never
actually materialized. We wonder who Shannon would have played if she got
a role...

Perry will also be running into some familiar faces, like former 90210
costars Jason Priestly and--perhaps--Shannon Doherty.
And the infamous Ms. Doherty?
"We're working on getting her up," says Warner.

"I think of him as a cross between Col. Kurtz from APOCALYPSE NOW and
Patrick Stewart from STAR TREK," says Stebbings. "Patrick Stewart is my
patron saint because he delivered his exposition so perfectly in that
show, and he had the sensitivity of a great leader. Where Marcus Alexander
is not like Patrick in that he's less sure of himself -- he waxes more
philosophical, he's younger -- but there's an inherent kind of wisdom. I
dig it. I have a lot of fun playing him."

We really don't think there are actually 16 episodes next season but
instead, we presume that an episode title has been repeated (one working
