      Posting Guidelines for Jainlist

      Dear friends,
      Namo Jinanam

The purpose of Jainlist is to promote Jainism, the Jain identity and the study
of Jain scriptures. To ensure a high standard of discussion, this is a moderated group. There are three moderators, who have been moderating this list for several years on a voluntary basis.

Here are some guidelines, on the basis of which we moderate messages.

      HITA MITA PRIYA

      1. Postings should make a contribution to the "academic study of Jainism", the stated purpose of the list.

      2. Jainlist aims to be a low-volume high-quality list that can exist without much, if any, moderation. So please be brief and keep all postings to an approximate upper limit of two screens. Short, pertinent messages are more likely to be passed than long winding ones.

      3. Unsolicited mini-essays should not be posted. Please be concise.

      4. Postings giving the URL of  informative, new contributions to the academic study of Jainism may be posted. However, the moderators shall decide what is relevant to the list and edit what is not. Their decision is final.

      5. Please do not include clippings from previous postings unless absolutely necessary.

      6. Please avoid repetition.

      7. Cross posting is strongly discouraged. If a mail is sent simultaneously to many other lists or many other recipients along with Jainlist, the message shall be rejected. Listmembers who repeatedly send emails simultaneously to several other lists may lose posting privileges.

      8. Please do not send attachments to this list. No pdf files, no pps, no video clips either. If need be, please upload the data somewhere and send us a URL, with a one sentence message. Whether to pass the message or not, is at the moderators' discretion,

      9. Please do not change the subject of a message unless your post reflects a paradigm shift from the current subject. In case you have to shift from the subject of the sender's email, please initiate a new email with a proper heading in the subject line. This will enable Jainlist subscribers to save the email in the proper sub-folder.

      10. We expect politeness and dignity from all contributors. This list is like a Svadhyaya session. So please behave with other members the way you would like them to behave with you. Maintain an even and respectful tone. While readers have a right to disagree, and are welcome to express their views, personal attacks on other contributors or any comments of a personal nature shall not be entertained. Please disagree without being disagreeable.

      11. The list is strictly non-sectarian. Please show respect to people from all traditions of Jainism and other religions.

      12. Harsh comments on a community or group of people are strongly discouraged. Moderators may ban those who use excessively harsh and abrasive language on the list.

      13. Please do not send emails in capital letters, as it is considered rude in netiquette.

      14. Please do not use this list for fund raising activities.

      15. Please keep in mind that this is not a news group. It is not meant for passing social or community related news.

      16. This is an English language list. Only postings in English shall be passed.

      17. This list is not a forum for waging personal battles against any sect, monk or person. Any personal issues should be sorted out outside of the list. Jainlist exists in order to enhance our understanding of the Jinas' teachings. Not as forum for complaining about the conduct of some Jains, whether they are ascetics or laypersons. Jainlist does not purport to be an arbitrator or ombudsman.

      18. Postings that are not in accordance with these guidelines may be rejected and, if repeated, may result in the contributor being banned from the list.

      19. Please think before you post. Write what you want to state, and then contemplate upon it. Only if you are convinced that your posting will help our understanding of the Jain dharma, post your message. Whether to pass your message or not, is at the moderators' discretion.

But please make their life easier by planning what you want to say and choosing your words carefully. Clarity of thought and  conciseness of expression will help all list members gain from your insights.

      20. The views expressed and/or the opinions held by the articles/postings in this list are those of the respective  author/contributor and do not reflect the personal view and/or opinions of the moderators of this list or of Jainlist itself. The moderators/Jainlist disclaim any and all liability for any action whether civil or criminal as might be initiated by any group/individual in response to any of the articles/postings on Jainlist.

      21. Please bear in mind that due to time constraints, it is not possible for the moderators to send "rejection" notices for every message which transgresses the list's guidelines. Nor can they respond to queries concerning moderation of specific messages. If your message does not appear on the list within two days of sending it, you may presume that it has not been accepted. Please do not send personal messages to the moderators asking them why a message was not passed.

      Thank you.

                Posting Guidelines for Jainlist

                Dear friends,

The purpose of Jainlist is to promote Jainism, the Jain identity and the study of Jain scriptures.

                2. Jainlist exists to make the teachings of the Jinas known to anyone who is interested in them. Jainlist does not indulge in proselytising. Nor does Jainlist exist to criticise/discuss other religions. Jainlist exists as a platform to further the study and dissemination of Jain teachings.

                3. Jainlist aims to be a low-volume high-quality list that can exist without much, if any, moderation. So please be brief and keep all postings to an approximate upper limit of two screens. Short, pertinent messages are more likely to be passed than long winding ones.

                4. Unsolicited mini-essays should not be posted. Please be concise.

                5. Postings giving the URL of  informative, new contributions to the academic study of Jainism may be posted. However, the moderators shall decide what is relevant to the list and edit what is not. Their decision is final.

                6. Please avoid repetition.

                7. Please do not include clippings from previous postings unless absolutely necessary.

                8. Cross posting is strongly discouraged. If a mail is sent simultaneously to many other lists or many other recipients along with Jainlist, the message shall be rejected. Listmembers who repeatedly send emails simultaneously to several other lists may lose posting privileges.

                9. Please do not send attachments to this list. No pdf files, no pps, no video clips either. If need be, please upload the data somewhere and send us a URL, with a one sentence message. Whether to pass the message or not, is at the moderators' discretion,

                10. Please do not change the subject of a message unless your post reflects a paradigm shift from the current subject. In case you have to shift from the subject of the sender's email, please initiate a new email with a proper heading in the subject line. This will enable Jainlist subscribers to save the email in the proper sub-folder.

                12. Please disagree without being disagreeable.

                13. The list is strictly non-sectarian. Please show respect to people from all traditions of Jainism and other religions.

                14. Harsh comments on a community or group of people are strongly discouraged. Moderators take a dim view of such postings and may ban those who use excessively harsh and abrasive language on the list.

                15. Please do not send emails in capital letters, as it is considered rude in netiquette.

                16. Please do not use this list for fund raising activities.

                17. Please keep in mind that Jainlist is not a newsgroup. It is not meant for passing social or community related news. There are several other fora for disbursing news related to Jainism. Kindly use them.

                18. This is an English language list. Only postings in English shall be passed.

                19. This list is not a forum for waging personal battles against any sect, monk or person. Any personal issues should be sorted out outside of the list. Jainlist exists in order to enhance our understanding of the Jinas' teachings. Not as forum for complaining about the conduct of some Jains or to settle scores with them, whether they are ascetics or laypersons. Jainlist does not purport to be an arbitrator or ombudsman. We provide a platform for discussion, in order to understand better.

                20. We expect listmembers who have raised a question on this list and been answered by other listmembers, to please acknowledge their effort and thank them.

                21. We encourage listmembers to make original contributions on this list. However, if listmembers happen to post materials sourced from external sources, we urge listmembers to ensure that they acknowledge their sources and credit them appropriately. If listmembers knowingly or unknowingly violate any copyright laws through their contributions, the moderators/Jainlist disclaim any and all liability for any action whether civil or criminal as might be initiated by any group/individual against them for the said violation.

                22. Postings that are not in accordance with these guidelines may be rejected and, if repeated, may result in the contributor being banned from the list.
