      PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release                                        August 17, 2000

A religious liberty prayer rally is planned for August 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the Federal Courts Building, Ohio and Pennsylvania Sts. in Indianapolis, Indiana. It will be held on behalf of the congregation of the Indianapolis Baptist Temple in conjunction with a hearing before Federal District Judge Sarah Evans Barker to give cause as to why she should not grant the U.S. government's request to seize and sell the property of the church. The U.S. Justice Department has asked for the property to be seized and sold to satisfy a $6 million judgment for the uncollected and unpaid withholding and FICA taxes on those who ministered at the church from 1987- '93 even though the taxes were paid individually by those who served at the church. The decision was upheld by the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago, August 14.
The church will argue that the security investments of the government are protected by the property of the church and that the church should be able to continue to worship at their present location until the Supreme Court makes a decision as to whether they will grant certiorari. The church will file the appeal shortly through their attorney, Mr. Albert F. Cunningham, of the Biblical Law Center of Redding, California.
