In 1850, John Williams, age 45, Baptist minister, lived between 2 and 3
miles west of present-day Stevenson near the Longacres and Cargiles. This
area is known as the Rash community.
In looking at a current map of Jackson County, find County Road 54, and Rash
will appear in Township 2 South, Range 7 East. Based on John Williams'
neighbors at time of the 1850 census, most likely he lived in either Section
9, 10, 15, or 16. Rash post office was at the juncture of these 4 Sections
      of land.
Stevenson was founded in the mid-1850s, and the Longacres and their
neighbors were enumerated in the Stevenson District in 1860 census.
