Let me take the time to explain these websites.
jacksongenealogy@yahoogroups our group is the
mailing list established by our Group Owner
Richard Matthews in 1999 with a very few members
at first, we are now at 301 members and growing.
You can click on the archived messages at the
Group Home Site to read the messages from the
very first one Richard posted.
It is a restricted, monitored site where we
discuss our roots in Jackson Co. AL, genealogy
and as of the past year or so some of the history
of Jackson County including the conditions and
social history of its people. To me that is part
of our genealogy. No discussion of todays
religion or politics. The fact that one of your
ancestors was a minister or politican in Jackson
County is of interest and we would like to hear
that i.e. what church did he help
establish/build? I would really like to hear
about some of those Ministers of the Gospel who
signed so many of the marriage certificates. For
example, my Greataunt Jerusha (Jerutia) m. David
King Pegues a minister and JOP whose signature I
have seen on some of the marriage certificates.
What office in the county did your ancestor hold?
What he preached about or what a politican's
political views were are not of interest.
If you want to chit-chat with each other about
personal matters each poster's email address is
displayed on each posted message, a requirment to
post on the list.
If possible when posting include Who, When, What
Event, Where, but not the actual birth dates on
living persons, year only for them. If you don't
know post what you know. Some have said they set
on the side lines and just read the posts, please
jump in and post, that is the only way the rest
of the group can help you. And we really would
like to hear from you and about your ancestors.
The ALGENWEB Jackson County site is a seperate
website maintained by Richard Matthews that is
part of the USGENWEB and contains
general/historical infomation about Jackson
County. There is no message board there as on
jacksongenealogy and no posting except that by
contacting Richard Matthews at prm@...
may add links to your family genealogy/history
websites. To see this site just Google: algenweb
jackson county and that will take you there.
I hope this will clear up some questions about
the differences between our group which is a
mailing list. The ALGENWEB Jackson Co. Website
which is part of the USGENWEB all of whose sites
are free to view by anyone, no membership is
required, each state and county have one.
