      As far as dating someones birth from the census or tombstones for that matter it just is not reliable. Just about any written record is subject to error, birth, marriage, death you name it and I can show you all kinds of errors, whether from family bibles or official records..

      For example Sarah Manerva "Sally" Gullatt Gant on every census from 1850 on gave her birth year as 1827. Her father John Gullatt died Sept 1824 and John's last child John Jr was born 1825 after his fathers death. On the 1830 census is listed 1 male under five, 2 females of 10 and under 15 =John Jr, Sarah Manerva and another sister. Some have even subtracted 5 years off each census they are on. The secret of eternal youth.

      If the date you are using was taken from a GEDCOM they are even worse, most people either do not know how to go back and change them to the right info or are just too lazy.
