      Hi Jewel,

You can tell if your ancestor applied for a homestead by going to the Land
record site, find him or her and click on the name. When you do, it will take
you to the Land Patent Report site. On the third line is the Authority. This
will tell how the land was acquired, whether by cash, warrant or homestead
      entry.

If your ancestor applied for a homestead, send an e-mail to this address
glomail@... requesting a NAFT form 84. It is best to request
more than one copy of this form. Be sure to include your name and mailing
address on your e-mail. The address you need to get the application that your
ancestor applied for will be on this form. The mailing address is:
      NATIONAL ARCHIVES TRUST FUND
      P. O. BOX 100221 Atlanta, GA 30384-0221 but you need the form 84
      to request the application.

      Hope this helps,
      Darlene
