Subject: [jacksongenealogy] Bryon M. Harper 1864-1940 son of Andrew J. and Amanda (Latture) Harper

Byron M. Harper was the son of Andrew J. Harper and his 1st wife Amanda Latture. Andrew J. Harper m. Amanda Latture est Feb/Mar 1864, Bryon M. Harper was b. 31 Dec 1864 Larkinsville. I have found no marriage record which is hardly surprising since Andrew was a Union supporter and had been threatened with hanging or burning of his house (Southern Claims Com.) and the courthouse at Bellefonte had been burned. He was a Pvt (Teamster) in the AL/TN 1st  Reg't Independent Vidette Cavalry (Union).

On his death certificate Bryon's father was listed as A. J. Harper and mother A. Letches (I read it as Letcher). On the 1860 Census her family is listed as Letcher. Her father was Andrew James "Andy" Latture who patented 4 parcels of land in Sect. 36 Township 3 Range 4, her mother was Lucinda Wininger. Their land was just south of Wininger and Letcher in Jackson County. Apparently Latture was pronounced Letcher.

Amanda "Mandy" (Latture) Harper must have died in childbrith or shortly thereafter as there were no more children.  Andrew J. Harper remarried to Mary Tindall Fowler 23 Sep 1866. Bryon M. first appears on the 1880 Census with them listed as Son.

Bryan M. and his wife Frances Alena "Lena" (Ryan dau of Amos L. and Mary Emma (Word) Ryan) are buried in Blue Springs Cem.
