Clay- According to the descendant of William G. Johnson, he was born in 1827- I should have posted that. Possibly young Will G. was named for his father's brother? This man said he had never found a complete list of children for the family of William Parks Johnson and Elizabeth Anderson. I am unfamiliar with these families :-( Maybe someone here does know who their children are- the inscription on the picture seems to lead to this family. Thanks for your help :-) Dana

        Sorry didn't complete the message.

If Martin and Martha named their oldest son after Martin's brother then maybe the William G. Johnson listed on the 1880 Census as G. WIlliam Johnson b. 1827 NC is Martin's brother.  Lydia C. on the census says her father was born NC.

Johnson. According to the inscription, they are possibly siblings, or
William might have been Martin's uncle. I've relabeled the picture three

              Cuz Dana:

Also looking at that photograph, it sure looks older then c1865 as you have

it marked, look at the clothing and machine sewing, also the book binding,

              looks more like c 1890 or c 1900.

It may well be a photo of William J Johnson, b 1852...

Clay- According to the descendant of William G. Johnson, he was born in

1827- I should have posted that. Possibly young Will G. was named for his

father's brother? This man said he had never found a complete list of

children for the family of William Parks Johnson and Elizabeth Anderson. I

am unfamiliar with these families :-( Maybe someone here does know who

their children are- the inscription on the picture seems to lead to this

family. Thanks for your help :-) Dana

Ancestry- they're really helpful. I've posted the picture of William G.
Johnson. Possibly someone here knows of a link between him and Martin
Johnson. According to the inscription, they are possibly siblings, or
William might have been Martin's uncle. I've relabeled the picture three
times on Ancestry and have finally left it vague since I don't know the
                actual relationship. Dana

Dana

                    Cuz Dana:

Also looking at that photograph, it sure looks older then c1865 as you
                    have
it marked, look at the clothing and machine sewing, also the book binding,
                    looks more like c 1890 or c 1900.

It may well be a photo of William J Johnson, b 1852...

                    Cuz Jimmie

Dana

Well this makes it even more confusing:

Berry Johnson and Lucy Blalock's son John was named "John Charles Johnson"
not John Martin Johnson - so could he have four names, like John Charles
Martin Johnson, much like my grandmother: Sarah Louisa Catherine Brashear?

I must have two families mixed up here? Or the three California Johnson
mixed up... only Malinda showed up as a California once in a census... the
other two were always listed in the census as "California."

Do we have two separate families here or is Berry and Lucy who lived in
Bridgeport, Jackson, Alabama the same people?

Also looking at that photograph, it sure looks older then c1865 as you
                        have
it marked, look at the clothing and machine sewing, also the book binding,
                        looks more like c 1890 or c 1900.

It may well be a photo of William J Johnson, b 1852...

Dana

Actually there are three different California Johnson's in Jackson, Alabama
                          at the same time.

                          Cuz Dana:

Also looking at that photograph, it sure looks older then c1865 as you
                          have
it marked, look at the clothing and machine sewing, also the book binding,
                          looks more like c 1890 or c 1900.

It may well be a photo of William J Johnson, b 1852...

Dana

Jewel- Thank you for the information re: Martha Jane Anderson's parents. I've found the following dates for them:

                            Horatio b. 12 Nov 1796, Buncombe NC d. 21 Jun 1870, Paint Rock, AL

Elizabeth (Summers?) b. 1804 NC d. 1853, Paint Rock, AL

Are these dates correct? Do you know if Elizabeth's last name was Summers? Thanks, Dana

Horatio and Elizabeth Anderson moved to Paint Rock Valley in Jackson County, north Alabama about 1832 as far as we can tell. They bought 40 acres on Hurricane Creek, 4 miles NE of Estill Fork on January 22, 1835.

They had four known children before moving to Alabama. (1) Joshua born 1822 in N.C., married Frances Emily Trice; (2) Mary Ann, born 1824 in N.C., married Thomas R. Prince; (3) Elizabeth Jane, born in N.C. 1828, married Elisha Prince; (4) William G., born 1829, married 1st Martha Jane Fanning, 2nd Eliza Harding; three more children were born to this couple in Jackson County, AL; (5) John born 1834, married Gilley Ann Yarbrough; (6) Martha Jane, born 1834, married John Martin Johnson; (7) Nancy Evaline, born 1836, married Josiah Miller. Elizabeth died about 1853 or 1854 and is probably buried in the Anderson Cemetery at Estill Fork.

Horatio married (2) on 10 February 1854 but he actually got married 10 Feb 1855 to Catherine Williams in Jackson County, AL. She had a two year old daughter, Martha Julia Williams, born in 1852 in Alabama.

Horatio and Catherine were the parents of five children: (1) Francis Franklin Anderson, born 26 Oct. 1856, married Mary F. Hinshaw; (2) James Thomas Anderson, born 11 Oct. 1858, married 1st Sarah Alice Hinshaw, 2nd Elizabeth George Gray; (3) John B. Anderson, born 2 Oct. 1860, married Elizabeth Jane Hinshaw; (4) Sarah Ellen Anderson, born 30 March 1863, married William Lafayette Sanders (5) Horatio Alexander Anderson, Jr. born 15 February 1865, married 1st Serena Hinshaw, 2nd Amanda M. Horatio Anderson died 21 June 1869, according to 1870 Jackson County, Alabama Mortality Schedule ending June 1, 1870, with Pulmonary Consumption. He could not have died after June 1st and been reported on the 1870 schedule.

Dana, where did you find this information? It's very interesting indeed.

                              Thanks

Jewel- Thank you for the information re: Martha Jane Anderson's parents. I've found the following dates for them:

                              Horatio b. 12 Nov 1796, Buncombe NC d. 21 Jun 1870, Paint Rock, AL

Elizabeth (Summers?) b. 1804 NC d. 1853, Paint Rock, AL

Are these dates correct? Do you know if Elizabeth's last name was Summers? Thanks, Dana

Jewel - I got those dates from someone else's tree on Ancestry. Because the tree had a lot of specific information (birth and death dates for all the kids, wife's middle and maiden name), I thought they may know something about the family. Since I am unfamiliar with the Andersons, I had no way of knowing if the dates were credible. Actually, since I asked about that, I've found an 1850 census for Horatio. The census says year of birth was 1804 and place was NC.

I have not used the info from the other tree. Have you ever heard Elizabeth referred to as Elizabeth Frances Summers?

Thanks for the info posted about Horatio and family. Dana

Be sure you include all 9 numbers----most people only use the first 7
ordinarily, but we must have all nine. You can find it by looking at some of

The Chronicles is a valuable resource of Jackson County History and Genealogy.

know a few years back I was contacted by another Yarbrough researcher that I
was not familiar with; yet, I lost all those emails to a computer crash so I

It surely has, I am now back around to Rebecca Gillie Ann Cornelison; so it
appears I have yet another loop in our family (well I have made 5
connections so far) - I have nothing on Gilley Ann Yarbrough; though, and I
know a few years back I was contacted by another Yarbrough researcher that I
was not familiar with; yet, I lost all those emails to a computer crash so I
am trying to rebuild that information. I would love to tight that family
together as I have many stray Yarbrough names, funny even my mother

Dana

I think this is correct. Since I'm not on Ancestry I haven't seen the picture. You might try sending it to me if you like.

Dana

Hi Jewel- Thanks for verifying this. I've been in touch with Bobbie Jordan (he's given permission to use his name and info)and he was certain that these were the correct parents of William G. Johnson (Bobbie's Ggrandfather). He believes that Martin Johnson may be an, as yet, unidentified sibling of this William G. Johnson- hence the inscription on the photo. What do you think of this? I'll send you a picture of William G. in the Clunn/Simpson photo. Dana
