Martha Jane Holder was born in Nov of 1855, married Slias on oct 19, 1873.
She was the daughter of John Holder and Mary Elizabeth McCoy. They are
buried at the Mt Gilead Cem in jackson County. She had two brothers and a
sister.Brothers Jim Bledsoe and John Luther--SisterMargaret Elizabeth. Aren't you
      glad you e-mailed me!
I have a birthdate for Silas and a death date, but klnow nothing of his
family. Martha Jane died in 1943, but i do not have the specific date.
I live just northwest of Waco, texas, but I try to visit the Jackson
County, Al-Franklin Co., Tn area every couple of years. I may have more info you
      could use-just tell me.
My ancestry goes back to a William Holder-(1811-Franklin Co-Sinking Cove).
Holders from NC,Sc, and KY regathered in Franklin County. The family
ancestry goes back to Va-Jamestown-but not one of the original settlers.
My family was closely associated with the Wann family and the Boyds.

Paul: I read your post on the Holders with interest. We don't hear much
about Sinking Cove. One of my ancestors, Silas Mercer West, married Martha
Jane Holder. I have that she was born in 1849 but little else. If you have any
information you might share concerning M J Holder, I would appreciate it.
      Especially, any copies of pictures.

Also, if you live in the area or know local history well, I've been told
that Johnnie Elizabeth West was working in a pencil factory in 1905(?). The
last time I visited Sherwood, I was told that there was a pencil factory on
the Salt River(?) just off the road coming out of Sinking Cove. Know any
of that history? I think I looked on a topo map and found the river, but
      little else.

      Thanks.

I have a very large data base of Holders
I have James and Charlotte in that base, but I do not have death dates,
      nor
      specific birth days-only years.
If you know his father i may be able to provide more info-my ancestry goes
to the Sinking Cove Holders-a settlement on the Tn-Ala-line
