Hardy Doyal lived at old Stone Fort near Manchester, TN, from 1815 until
he moved to Alabama and built a mill (per U.S. House of Representative
records). Doyal's Mill was a voting precinct in Jackson County, AL in
1821. Hardy Doyal also operated a store and was postmaster at Doyal's
Mill, AL, according to 1825 U.S. postal records. Hardy Doyal died in
either 1833 or 1834 in Bolivar, Alabama. Dr. Lemuel Gilliam was
postmaster at Doyal's Mill in the 1830s, and it appears that Dr. Gilliam
changed the post office name from Doyal's Mill to Bolivar shortly after
Gilliam became the postmaster in that area.
