GILLASPIE * CHAFFIN * ST. CLAIR * LONGACRE
Henry Gillaspie born in VA about 1790 was the son of George Gillaspie.
George moved his family to Franklin County TN in the 1820s. Henry and
his brother, George, appeared on land records in Jackson County AL
beginning in the 1830s. Henry's first wife is unknown, but may be Ruth
Chaffin, married in 1822. Henry died in the late 1850s. Within one
year of Henry's death, his wife Zylphia married Mr. St. Clair.
1850 Jackson County AL census lists Henry as a brick mason, his wife
Nancy, age 33 with children Patrick 8, William 4, Mary 3 months.
1860 Jackson County AL census lists Henry age 62, Zylphia, age 36,
William 14 and Mary F. 11. The closest neighbor is Thomas Longacre.
1869 Southern Industrial Herald announces the settlement of the estate
of Henry Gillaspie.
1870 Jackson County AL census lists Mary Gillespi (f) age 20 in the home
of William Longacre Jr.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone connected to these families.
