Thank you very much for bringing this up, I was pretty confused. I think I have the same daughter for William Lafayette Precise and Delilah Hawk as you mention, but the only reason is the census records. My mom is also a Precise and talked to her aunt (Bertha Precise Proctor) about the family. Aunt Bertha said the family only had sons, and that they all fought in the Civil War, but not all on the same side. I have a copy of a poem that the twins (David and Robert) wrote about their store, kind of a jingle, and can type it out for you if you'd like a copy. It's pretty dang cute.
The Delilah in question on the census with William and Delilah appears to be the daughter of John F.Precise and Eliza Ann Sanders. She and her older sister Sarah were both said to have been raised by Ambrose Lafayette Precise and Phebe Jane Sanders, though I've always wondered why. Must have been pretty confusing, as Ambrose also has a daughter named Delilah from his first wife, C.M.A.J. Sisk, living in the household, though she was born later, in  1866.
My lineage is through Ambrose Lafayette Precise and Phebe Jane Sanders, who had John William Precise, who had my grandfather John Wallace Precise. My grandparents left the farm in Jackson County during WWII for a security guard job in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on the Manhattan project and never moved back. My mom, their youngest daughter, would love to know who your mom is and how we're related. My mom's name is Eveonne (Precise) Christensen.
By the way, your website you listed is outstanding, I love all the research you list to document your work. What a treasure!!

      Hi Jimmie and others -

I've not been posting on this list for a long while, but I'd like to inquire about Delilah Ann Precise connection mentioned below.

My mother is a Precise, and I've got quite a bit of info on the Precises, but I'm unfamiliar with this daughter of William Precise & Deliah Hawkins. The 1840 Jackson County census for William Precise and family shows four children aged 14 & below, all male (likely James P, John F, Clement, and Thomas). The 1850 JC Census for the household gives the names William & Delilah, with children John, Clemen, Thomas, Ambros, Robert, David, William, and Joseph S. There's no evidence in these census records of a daughter.

The closest match to a "Delilah Ann Precise" I have is a daughter Delilah A. Precise born to John F. & Eliza Ann (Sanders) Precise. This Delilah A. was born in 1854, and in 1870 she appears to be living in the household with her grandparents (William & Deliah/Delilah), shown there as age 14. Obviously, this Delilah A. is too young to have married Jessie Evans in 1858.

So I'm wondering if you have a marriage record or other documentation for the Delilah Ann Precise shown below as having married Jessie Evans in 1860. I'd be very interested in this, because I've seen other informal claims about a daughter for the original Jackson County William & Delilah Precise, but no real evidence.

      Thanks in advance.
