      If I remember correctly Will Thomas bought up the land that the Cherokees had lost with the Removal of the Cherokee on the Trail of Tears. Since Indians could not own land he bought the land in his name. This eventually became the Cherokee Res in NC and is owned now by the Eastern Band of the Cherokees.

      William Holland Thomas was a white trader that lived in western NC and had several Cherokee trading posts including one at Charleston, TN.?? Known as Little Will, he was the only white to ever be the chief of the Eastern Cherokee nation.

      Published information on Thomas indicates that he was related to President Zachary Taylor through his father.? How?? What was that relationship?
