    Conrad-

The total cost for painting the deck was $18k, but the painting was part of a deck refit that also included new hatches, replacing the lenses and gaskets for all ports, new SS dorades, new rope clutches and other things, like re-anodizing the stanchion bases (some of those items may have been outside the $18k).

Some pictures of the deck being painted and before and after pictures are attached. I had it done by Mike Beasley (Beasley Marine) in Annapolis. He did an exceptional job. Most, but not all deck fittings were removed and everything had to be sanded. The smooth sections of the deck were painted first (with Awlgrip's Snow White), then the nonskid, with Moon Dust. The pictures give you an idea of what's involved with masking off first the nonskid, then the painted smooth sections.

The nonskid was originally grey. There were some spots of crazing and the gelcoat was in rough shape. So far, the paint has held up extremely well, with the boat spending most of the last three years in the tropics (on the hard in Grenada now). There are several small spots where the grey nonskid is showing through. I'm not sure what's causing it, but I suspect that it might be caused by some chemical dripping on the deck. It's not chipping or peeling, but rather, it looks like a liquid dripped onto it.

I think I paid a premium, but I don't regret it. Baruna is 16 years-old, but looks like a much newer boat. Mike gave me a quote for painting the whisker pole (the gel coat was nearly worn off, it seemed) for $2k, but I had that done in Antigua in 2012 for $600.

Thanks, what was the final cost for painting the deck?  What was the prep?   Did you have any crazing to deal with other than the non-skid color?

    Thanks,

    Conrad

    Conrad-

Awlgrip Moon Dust should be a close match. I had my nonskid deck painted with it in 2009.

I have a slightly tan color for the non-skid.  Does anyone know what color or paint this is…. I have a few spots that need touch-up.

    Thanks,
