This week is National Vegetarian Week. Abbie Wightwick spoke to Cardiff mum
Ruth Joseph whose family gave up meat 30 years ago

Preparing meat for a family celebration at her home in Cardiff, Ruth Joseph
was horrified so many animals had to die so they could eat.

Preparing chicken, turkey and salmon for hundreds of guests at her son
Joes bar mitzvah she decided eating meat was wrong.

It hit me like a rock, Ruth recalled.

I thought, Theres something wrong in eating all this.

Later we went to the Royal Welsh show and animals were tethered up with
joints of meat labelled above them, Thats what finally did it.

It was the mid-1980s and although vegetarianism was widely known, it wasnt
      yet mainstream.
