(DE) Home of Auschwitz town's last Jew to become vegetarian cafe
- The Auschwitz Jewish Centre is raising funds to turn the now empty home of
the man who was the last Jew in the town of Oswiecim, site of the Nazi
death camp, into a vegetarian cafe.
The home of Szymon Kluger, who died in 2000, is "falling down" and the
centre wants to "turn it into Cafe Oshpitzin - taken from the Yiddish name
for Oswiecim - a vegetarian cafe that will celebrate local food and
dialogue while maintaining the house's important historical presence."
It is seeking donations through the "crowdfunding" website Kickstarter.com
for the building in the southern town.
