What made Victoria Moran go vegan?

She remembers as a first-grader telling her grandmother that she had
learned the four food groups. Did you know, said her grandma, that
some people never eat any meat? And if she didn’t believe it, she’d
take her to Unity Village and they’d try hamburgers made out of
      peanuts.

There was the day she was 9 or 10 and caught a fish at a Kansas City
outdoor show. Extracting the hook made blood spurt. Then the woman at
the booth whacked the fish dead on a stainless-steel table and gave it
      to her as her prize.

Later, in a biology class at Southwest High School, it came time to
dissect formerly living creatures, starting with worms. Victoria
changed classes, despite dire warnings of how that would look on her
transcript. She still remembers the biology teacher saying to her,
“Well, you eat meat, don’t you?”
