Nadia Masoudi, a vegan, is hoping to influence others to give up meat
for at least one day this year, two the next and so on until they
      become vegetarians year-round.

Masoudi, 18, of Stoney Creek is calling July 24 Animal Freedom Day to
raise awareness of animal rights and to encourage people to give up
meat on that day. She also plans a webcast to try to galvanize a
global end to eating animal meat or using animal by-products.

The webcast, from a tent at the Burlington Jazz 'n Blues Festival at
Spencer Smith Park, is a collection of pre-recorded videotaped
messages and performances from musicians, actors and animal
organizations, but will include live interviews via Skype, as well,
      she said.
