2167Conference, Moscow, October 2009
- Apr 3, 2009The Higher School of Translation and Interpretation (Lomonosov Moscow State University) invites you to take part in the 2nd international conference "Science of Translation Today" which will be held on September 30 October 3, 2009 in Moscow.
The conference will explore the subject
"Translation and sense".
Translation has always sought to transfer the source message sense system. In antiquity it was already understood that translators did not just substitute the words of a source message, but that they communicated its meaning. Cicero, St Jerome, Renaissance philosophers and many others emphasized sense transfer in translation, contrasting "reasonable" translations with formal ones. The concept of source message sense system, as well as of factors allowing and restricting its transfer, has been developing in parallel with translation studies and practice.
The conference aims to provide a forum for discussion of a range of ideas concerning philosophical, sociological, methodological, linguistic and psychological aspects of translation as well as literary translation, history of translation and translation studies and teaching translation and interpretation.
Languages: Russian, English, German and French.
Plenary sessions will be provided with simultaneous interpretation (from English, French and German into Russian and from Russian into English).
