ITALY DEMANDS ''HEBREW-CHRISTIAN'' EUROPEAN UNION
- FINI HOPES FOR HEBREW-CHRISTIAN ORIGIN REFERENCE IN EU
November 1, 2002
(AGI) - Rome, Nov. 1 - Deputy Prime Minister
Gianfranco Fini suggested, in an interview with Tg2
news, that in the EU constitution there should be a
reference to the "Hebrew-Christian" origins of Europe.
Fini also feels that the best name to give to the new
European body is "United Europe".
The deputy Prime Minister claims that "the Hebrew
Christian background is the root of European cultural
identity". Fini hopes "personally" that in the future
EU constitution there should be a reference to
Christian values. "It is evident, though - concluded
Fini with Tg2 - that Europe is a laic institution".
