15 WEEK INTENSIVE APPLIED CLASSICAL ARABIC COURSE (E London)

      Time: Sundays, 9.00 am - 12.00 pm
Venue: Froud Centre, 1 Toronto Avenue, off Romford Road, Manor Park,
      London, E12 5JF

This Level 2 course offers those who have completed Level 1 or have
reached an intermediate level in Arabic an excellent opportunity to
apply their knowledge and improve their comprehension. Participants
negotiate challenging but tractable extracts from various genres of
Arabic literature and hone their skills in translating from both
Arabic to English and English to Arabic. After learning grammar in
Level 1 prescriptively, the grammar is taught deductively during
Level 2, where bodies of language are encountered, whether written
or spoken, and attempts are made to decipher them.

In Level 1 the student approaches meaning through structure while
in Level 2 they try to grapple with meanings and refer to structure
to facilitate this. Participants are given materials and exercises
that are both interesting and stimulating, as well as challenging
and intensive. The overwhelming emphasis is on vocabulary building.
This is achieved not only by straightforward learning of words but
also through memorising adhkar (devotional supplications), hikam
(aphorisms), shi'r (poetry), Qur'an, Hadith and amthal (proverbs).

SUPPORT NATIONAL DAWAH THROUGH THE QUR'AN PROJECT

The Qur'an Project allows each and every one of us to contribute
towards a national Dawah project, granting us the opportunity to
benefit from the work and receive a portion of the good deeds.

This is a unique project in that not only are we distributing free
English translations of the Qur'an to non-Muslims, the book itself
is more than just a simple translation. It is a fully comprehensive
guide for people new to Islam who can benefit by learning about the
many aspects of Islam, such as how to become a Muslim, and a short
guide on performing wudu (ablution) and salaah (prayer), to name
      just a few.

What we are asking for are financial contributions towards printing
of further copies. This will enable us to carry on with the work
of spreading the Deen of Islam. Just imagine the benefits of being
involved in this project, even if you donate just a small amount.
Every non-Muslim who reverts due to receiving a copy of our book,
will be sure to utilise the contents due to the vast number of
issues covered. It functions as a simple guide for new Muslims,
who can study the basics and develop a sound understanding of the
fundamentals of Islam. Every word acted upon and every action
implemented will mean that you receive an on-going share of the
      reward, insha'Allah.

We have nearly achieved our target, and just need to raise another
£6000. Maybe we can raise more with your help. Kindly spread the
word, get involved and secure your share!

difficulty; 2) Recruiting volunteers for our next training session

WHY ARE SO MANY BLOODS & CRIPS RUNNING TO ISLAM

      Date: Saturday 26th March 2011
      Time: 7.00 pm
Venue: Willesden Library, 95 Willesden High Road, Willesden,
      London, NW10 2SF

The Salam Project is honoured to host this event as it relates
to what is really happening on the streets of the UK, right now
in 2011. Our special guest speakers from the USA will be Brother
Hassan (ex Crip) and Brother Hamza (ex Blood). The event will
also feature Urban Islamic poetry (with no music) from ex-Crip
affiliated lyricist Ikwon from Miami, Sunna Poems, Ayman Raze,
      Young Ackhi, and more.

The Bloods and Crips are two of the most famous urban gangs in
the Western world that originated in California. Sadly thousands
of youths are killed every week in conflict across USA in gang
warfare. Both gangs have strict rules and guidelines but they
are sworn enemies. Strangely enough, what we are not hearing
on mainstream media is that thousands are embracing Islam. They
are not only accepting Islam, they are starting up businesses
and going back into education (school and college)! Crucially,
once many of them have embraced the faith they are working
together to better themselves and their communities.

Brother Hassan and Hamza have both been active in outreach and
dawah work in the inner cities and prisons where Bloods and
Crips dwell. This event is relevant because there are over 20
'copy cat' Bloods and Crip gangs in the UK! Especially across
      London, Birmingham and Manchester.

We have been fortunate to get a former Crip affiliated lyricist
Ikwon who is now an Islamic Urban poet who uses his poetry to
display the harsh realities of transformation. The event will
be hosted by Ismael South of the Salam Project. There will be
support from a few UK poets too. This event will be sure to
educate shock, motivate and inspire. Entry fee is just £5. All
people, especially the youth are strongly encouraged to come.
Parents and elders, please send your teenage children along.

This is a special course for those who have memorised the whole
Qur'an (huffaz) or are about to complete it, and are interested
in obtaining 'Ijazah' in one of the 10 authentic recitations.
Ijazah is a traditional certifying method which takes the form
of a verbal certification given by the teacher with an unbroken
chain going back to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

The main objectives of this course are: preservation of Divine
Qira'at (authentic recitations); revival of the traditional
certifying method; and promotion of authentic recitations.

Shaikh Said Bouhdifi is head of the Qur'an Faculty at the
Institute for Islamic Sciences (France). He obtained Ijazah for
the 10 forms of Qur'anic recitation (Qira'at) from Shaikh Ayman
Suaid and from Shaikh Abdul Mun'im Ash-Shalati. Additionally,
Ustadh Fahimul Anam (for male huffaz) and Ustadha Selina Ali
(for female huffazah) will be teaching Tajweed, and preparing
students for the Ijazah course prior to Shaikh Said's visit to
the UK. Both are students of Shaikh Said Bouhdifi.

This course is only for registered students. As part of the
registration process all potential students will undergo an
admission test to identify their level of competency, and only
successful students will be registered. Applicants must be 16+

LAUNCH OF NEW MUSLIM SUPPORT NETWORK

      Date: Sunday 27th March 2011
      Time: 2.00 pm - 5.00 pm
Venue: Oakwood Centre, Headley Road, Woodley, Reading, RG5 4JZ

Did you know that there are hundreds of people who convert to Islam
every year in the UK? On average there is a new Muslim convert every
day. Did you also know that as few as perhaps 25% stay Muslim after
conversion? The reasons given for people not remaining Muslim are
thought to include: feeling completely alone and isolated; feeling
      confused and lost with what it means to be Muslim after conversion;
and feeling that there's no help or support provided by the Muslim
      community.

The Muslim Converts Network is a voluntary organisation whose main
aim is to provide a support network for converts in the Berkshire
area. If you are a convert to Islam or you know a convert that
could benefit from MCN or would simply like to volunteer, come to
our launch event to learn more. Pay and Display parking available
opposite the centre with free parking a short walk away at Woodford
Park Leisure Centre on Haddon Drive. Pre-registration is required.
