Interesting for us to be having this particular discussion...given how one of our generations cultural mythalogies was revealed this week.

It goes to show - at a particular level - government really is about positioning. Its not about change - government is a reactionary body. Its thought to be the one in charge...but that in itself is one of the foundations of governmental power; forming the illusion of inacting change, when all they are doing is responding to it. They engage in some forms of direction and they script some parts in order to push the movement along...but they do not change or have any power over change.

Living for one self, for ones own fullfillment, is where one inacts change.

This is what I felt too, when asking this question.  I think that thinking government and our culrure are the same, is dangerous, because I think it divides us and that those that focus on the government are missing the point.  The government is the way it is because of our cultural myths.

I think its a mistake if people do. Its too simplistic. AND....it leads to an assumption that changing the government would actually change the culture. OR...that by getting rid of the government all together would in some fashion alter the cultural mindset.

Government I believe is merely the result of the mindset; it in fact directs nothing. It is directed. A government, any government, can only go so far. Whether we are within a socialist, democratic or a dictatorial government...the leadership is only as powerful as the people allow them to be.

Politicians are merely actors on a larger stage. There are still those who are coaching them in the wings, writers who are scripting what they say, and directors influencing their movements.  A politician is the spokesperson or respresentative of the constituents.

As I see it...changing the government is akin to moving around the deck chairs on the Titanic.

I have seen this in many, many posts, on many different forums, so please don't take this personally Jacklyn.  Your post just triggered the question again for me.

Do most people here think that Mother Culture and the Government are the same thing?  I like to think of the government as simply more people who have succumbed to Mother Culture's whisperings.  (maybe more so than most)

Is there any danger in thinking of them as one and the same?
