      The U.S. Occupation of Iraq must end now!

      Support House Concurrent Resolution 35, calling for an end to the occupation, by developing and implementing a plan for immediate removal of U.S. forces from Iraq.

      Write and call your Congressional Representatives and ask them to support and co-sponsor House Con. Res. 35.  Read the full text of the Resolution at:

      Everyone will have an opportunity to write postcards in support of the "End the U.S. Occupation of Iraq" resolution, House Concurrent Resolution 35. Plans for BPAC’s May events will be discussed. We still need help with fliering for the May 5th Amy Goodman/Carrie Newcomer event and BPAC’s film series (May 4 - June 1). Please help us spread the word!

      Monday, May 2:

      "Standing Room Only" WFHB-FM Community Radio's new lecture series

      Tune in Mondays at 6:00 pm for a brand-new locally-produced public affairs program on WFHB. "Standing Room Only" features lectures and other public forums digitally recorded on-location at various sites in Monroe County. This new program amplifies voices not adequately represented in mainstream media, helping to raise consciousness of issues and events affecting life in south central Indiana and beyond.

      This week's broadcast features a colorful and engaging evening with Reverend Al Sharpton (from his April 21st talk in Bloomington). 

      Future guests include Amy Goodman on May 9th and Dr. Christine Glasser on May 16th.

      "Counter-recruiting" Demonstration

      In response to the new Indiana National Guard Recruiting Office having their "Grand Opening" on May 3, Bloomington Peace Action Coalition and 'Against the Occupation of Iraq' call on the IU and Bloomington communities to protest the unlawful occupation of Iraq and oppose the "feeding of the War Machine" through military recruitment.

      We will gather at Sample Gates and picket the new Indiana National Guard Recruiting Office on Kirkwood Avenue. Let's have a huge turn-out to demonstrate our opposition to military recruiting in our communities. Spread the word!

      "Civilization" considers in detail the history of Iraq prior to the 2003 U.S. invasion.

      Bloomington Peace Action Coalition and Reel Democracy are pleased to present the Bloomington premiere of the fifth installment of this critically acclaimed documentary series, created by filmmakers Gabriele Zamparini and Lorenzo Meccoli.

      A Private Reception with Amy Goodman

      Amy Goodman, host of 'Democracy Now!', has graciously agreed to appear at a private reception, with net proceeds to benefit WFHB (Community Radio) to cover the fees required to air 'Democracy Now!'.

      This opportunity to spend an hour or two up close and personal with the host of our nation's largest community media project is NOT being advertised in print or broadcast media. There are only fifty tickets available and it's certain they will go fast.       Tickets are $30 per person for this private reception with Amy Goodman. Refreshments and snacks will be provided. Net proceeds benefit WFHB to cover the fees required to run 'Democracy Now!' on a daily basis.

      Amy Goodman ~ “Un-embed the Media!” speaking engagement with music by Carrie Newcomer


      Amy Goodman, nationally acclaimed independent journalist and host of Pacifica Radio’s ‘Democracy Now!’ will give a public talk as a part of her national “Un-embed the Media!” tour to promote the paperback edition of her book, "The Exception to the Rulers: Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers, and the Media That Love Them." She will be discussing the role of the media in the context of a nation at war, comparing corporate-owned media with the work of independent media. She presents a compelling argument for the importance of independent media to foster a dialogue that is vital to a healthy democracy.


      Local singer/songwriter and ‘Rounder Records’ recording artist, Carrie Newcomer will open the evening’s presentation with a performance of her music, past and present.


      This will be Amy Goodman's only Indiana appearance on her "Un-embed the Media!" speaking tour.
