Has anyone looked into the new tax credit that was passed with the new bill last week ?

My understanding is that you can tax a tax credit of 30% of the cost of the system.  I am trying to find out, if you have to wait until next year to purchase or if you purchase this year, you can claim it on this years taxes ?

I had sent out all the different  quotes from the 3 different vendors  and had met with REGrid, Rec Solar and will meet up with Vista this thursday evening.

Regrid and Rec Solar  both had also evaluated  4 other neighbors homes in my street.

              Joanna,
Yes, the federal  tax is up to 30% of the system cost . A number of us are deciding to get the contract signed this year and installation to start next year.

I had sent out all the different  quotes from the 3 different vendors  and had met with REGrid, Rec Solar and will meet up with Vista this thursday evening.

Regrid and Rec Solar  both had also evaluated  4 other neighbors homes in my street.

              Regards,
              Eileen

Has anyone looked into the new tax credit that was passed with the new bill last week ?

My understanding is that you can tax a tax credit of 30% of the cost of the system.  I am trying to find out, if you have to wait until next year to purchase or if you purchase this year, you can claim it on this years taxes ?

Yes, it will be a wise decision to sign up a contract now to lock the $1.9/W PG&E rebate and install the system in January next year for both the 30% ITC and higher cap on AMT.
I signed the contract back to 9/15/08 and my scheduled installation will be sometime between middle December and early January. For the schedule like this, If someone sign-up  now, the installation will be pushed to late January or even later as more and more people are trying to delay the installation this year to January next year for taking the better tax benefit.

                Regards,
                   Danny

If the vendor you are thinking of signing up with doesn’t have a similar guarantee, then I would recommend trying to negotiate for something similar.

                    Joanna,
Yes, the federal  tax is up to 30% of the system cost .

                    Regards,
                    Eileen

ReGrid was the highest priced proposal and we had decided that we didn't need the aesthetics issues as all of us have double storied houses. The aesthetics was a point they pushed as well as the efficiency. If you have enough roof space and you decided that you want a 4.0DC system any  company will be able to provide it.

We also had Regrid come out and talk to us.  One thing to consider is their “Power Pledge Performance Guarantee”, which is a great selling point.  http://www.regrid.com/products/powerpledge.php

If the vendor you are thinking of signing up with doesn’t have a similar guarantee, then I would recommend trying to negotiate for something similar.

                      Regards,

                        Good Afternoon,
I just got signed off on my solar system this week after several delays and changes having to be made to the installation plan.  I would like to let those of you who are planning on going photovoltaic (PV) to make sure your contractor checks with the City of San Jose's Building Dept. on newly proposed installation changes.
A PV system normally requires just an electrical permit. However, depending on the design of your system and roof space to accommodate a certain number of panels, it may interfere with plumbing vent pipes on the roof. This may now require a plumbing permit to be pulled if those vents are impacted. Rerouting of those vents could be required.
In addition, the San Jose Fire Department is in discussion with the Building Dept. over their ability to fight a home fire with a PV system on the roof. There are two issues that I know of that concern them. To prevent electrocution to firefighters, they will shut off the power coming into home. However, solar panels continue to produce a direct current regardless of power being cut at the street. That certainly is a hazard for them. Also, they need roof access to axe a hole into attic space to vent smoke. Solar panel placement may now have to allow for open space for that purpose.
I would certainly not discourage anyone from going solar as I am very happy with my decision to do so. However, I would like to give you a heads up if you're going forward with a PV contractor.  I would suggest they check with the City's building department on their proposed installation plans as codes are being re-written as we speak.

                        Mike

ReGrid was the highest priced proposal and we had decided that we didn't need the aesthetics issues as all of us have double storied houses. The aesthetics was a point they pushed as well as the efficiency. If you have enough roof space and you decided that you want a 4.0DC system any  company will be able to provide it.

We also had Regrid come out and talk to us.  One thing to consider is their “Power Pledge Performance Guarantee”, which is a great selling point.  http://www.regrid. com/products/ powerpledge. php

If the vendor you are thinking of signing up with doesn’t have a similar guarantee, then I would recommend trying to negotiate for something similar.

                          Joanna,
Yes, the federal  tax is up to 30% of the system cost .
