The Indian Liaison Council of UNI Global Union is organizing a meeting on ‘Walmart’s Global Track Record and the Implications for FDI in Multi-Brand Retail’ on Saturday 7th July from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Hotel Kohinoor Park, Veer Savarkar Marg, Opp. Siddhivinayak Temple, Prabhadevi, Mumbai - 400 025.

Experts from the  United States will share their experiences of  Walmart at the meeting. There will also be an opportunity for stakeholders including trader groups and worker representatives to discuss the
potential impact of FDI in multi-brand retail in Maharastra and India as a whole.
UNI Global Union is a Switzerland based global union federation which represents 900 unions with members in more than 150 countries in the service sectors. Among others, UNI represents unions in the commerce/retail industry in many countries across the globe.

UNI was recently asked to contribute to the consultation process on FDI in Multi-Brand Retail and submitted  a report to the DIPP outlining ourconcerns regarding FDI in retail and focussing on Walmart’s  track
record regarding its pricing, sourcing and labour relations policies.

This report entitled ‘Walmart’s Global Track Record and the Implications for FDI in Multi-Brand Retail’ was launched in March this year at an international meeting of key stakeholders in Delhi.  Meeting participants included  worker, trader and hawker representatives,  along with NGOs and Academics.

Please contact Mr. Karthik Shekar to inform him whether you are available to attend the meeting or if you would like any further information.
