Project description: Praxis is organising a study on assessing community based groups involved in addressing issues related to HIV/AIDS prevention and vulnerability reduction of Female sex worker/Men who have sex with Men/Transgender and Injecting Drug User groups. The project involves monitoring community mobilization efforts, generating reports and disseminating timely information on (a) community groupsâ€™ organisational capacities and (b) their capacity to address vulnerability issues in India. Six states, including, Nagaland, Manipur, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are covered under the project.
Position: Research Associate (short-term)
The specific tasks involved are:
Collecting information from community-based groups in different districts and sub-district locations based on a structured schedule
Collating information in a pre-formatted database
Preparing an analytical report in a pre-structured format
The work will involve traveling across districts within each of the six states as well as attending meetings on quality review and data sharing. During the three months, the research associates are expected to spend between 25 to 30 days in the field (in the state for which they will be selected). The travel plan could involve continuous stay in the field for upto three weeks without a break.
The applicant shall have the following minimum qualifications:
(a) Post-graduate in social sciences
(b) Minimum of three years of experience in data collection
(c) Understanding on issues related to sex workers, MSM and Injecting drug users
(d) Ability to read and write English, with experience of report writing
(e) Able to speak, read and write at least one of the following languages- Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Manipuri, Nagamese or Kannada
(a) Ability to work in a team
(b) Ability to work under stressful conditions and to adapt to different facilities available in rural areas and small towns.
(c) Sensitivity to the issues of the communities of female sex workers, MSM and IDUs.
(a) Understanding of participatory research.
(b) Knowledge on HIVAIDS targeted intervention programme in India
