      and practices of environmental management in India (June 1- 30, 2009)

      A month-long certificate course for students and young professionals will --
      through lectures, readings, debates, weekly outings, reportage and a five-
      day field tour to rural India -- explore the complexities underlying the
      environment-development debate in the country. Several fellowships are
      available to support students. Outstation (non-Delhi) candidates are
      particularly encouraged to apply.

      The course comprises the following modules:

      - State of India's environment: An overview
      - The environmental movement in India
      - Poverty and the biomass economy
      - Ecological rights & natural resource management
      - Land and its use: Agriculture, food security
      - Conservation & conflict: wildlife management debate
      - Urban growth challenges: Water & waste management, air pollution &
      mobility
      - Sustainable industrialisation & public health concerns
      - Climate change & global environmental governance
