Campaigners march in protest at war on terrorism
Campaigners across Europe are marching to protest against the war on
Hundreds of Muslims from all over Britain have gathered in central London
to demonstrate against America's recent foreign policy.
Simultaneous demonstrations have been organised throughout the world,
taking place in Berlin, Brussels, Vienna and Jakarta, in Indonesia.
The campaigners are planning to march to the Embassy of Uzbekistan, a
country they highlight as "a prime example of the war America is waging
against the Muslims".
Organisers claim thousands of Muslims have been arrested, tortured and
murdered in Uzbekistan, and a campaign entitled "Who Killed Farhad
Usmanov?" has been running to raise awareness of the issue.
Usmanov was allegedly murdered by Uzbek security services in June 1999,
according to the demonstration's organisers.
A number of protesters wore T-shirts with the slogan as they awaited
speeches at the beginning of the march.
Dr Imran Waheed, a Birmingham-based doctor and one of the march's
organisers, said: "This demonstration is to show that what America calls
her war against terror is really a war against Islam and the Muslims."
Organisers of the demonstration are members of Hizb ut-Pahrir which is a
political party whose ideology is Islam.
The organisation works throughout the Islamic world to resume the Islamic
way of life.
