Finnish FM likens Israeli policies to Nazis'

Comments by Finnish Foreign Minister Errki Tuomioja, yesterday, equating
Israel's policies toward the Palestinians with those of Nazi Germany
toward Jews, led to protests both in his own country and here.
The minister said in a newspaper interview that it was "shocking that the
Jews are pursuing the same policies toward the Palestinians that they
themselves were forced to suffer in the 1930s."
Tuomioja, a member of Finland's ruling Social-Democrats, said that his
comments were in line with the decision of the European Union, of which
Finland is a member, to take a tougher stance against Israel.
"I am shocked that Israel's policy is to humiliate, to hurt and to
impoverish the Palestinians," the Finnish minister said. "What could be
the result of this except eternal hatred? Israel's actions are especially
difficult to accept because the Jews, more that anyone else, should know
how horrible it is for a whole nation to be persecuted." He called the
Israeli policies with the Palestinians "troubling."
Tuomioja later denied that he had drawn parallels between Israel's
policies and those of the Nazi regime.
But Gideon Bolotowsky, chairman of the Jewish community in Helsinki,
rejected Tuomioja's denial. "He did do it and did say those things," he
"He lost all touch with reality and does not understand the aims of the
Palestinians," the community leader said.
Bolotowsky filed an official complaint against the minister and said that
in his opinion Tuomioja should be dismissed.
Israel expressed "disappointment" at Tuomioja's remarks, and Israel's
ambassador to Finland conveyed this message to the Foreign Ministry in
The Finnish foreign minister argued that the tougher European stance
toward Israel is bearing fruit: he pointed to the legal case in Belgium
against Prime Minister Ariel Sharon over the Sabra and Chatila massacres,
and the protests in Denmark against the appointment of former Shin Bet
chief Carmi Gillon as Israel's ambassador.

WE AFFIRM THAT INJUSTICE ANYWHERE IS A THREAT TO JUSTICE EVERYWHERE!!!!
Article 2 of the "International Convention of the Suppression and
Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid" of 1973 clearly defined the
term "crime of apartheid." This includes similar policies and practices
of segregation and discrimination as practiced in South Africa and
which also apply to inhuman acts committed for the purpose of the
establishment and maintaining of domination by one racial group over
another. This includes the deliberated imposition of living conditions
calculated to cause physical destruction and any legislative or other
measures preventing a racial group from full development of their
political, social, economic and cultural life. This is an accurate
description of what the zionists are doing to the Palestinian people
with the full support of the USA.
