Re: [infoguys-list] (no subject)
- Mr. Harmony,
In the process of researching the viability of Investigations as a career choice, which I have chosen to train for and pursue, I had a background check run on myself, at a cost of $65.00 per state, by a local investigator. I was shocked when the results revealed a Felony Conviction that I knew nothing about. To add insult to injury, the Investigator who produced the report refused to reveal his source (an information broker). When I went to the court of jurisdiction, I was told that since the incident occurred 18 years ago, the paper file no longer exists, so no details could be provided that would clear my name, even though it was my name that was attached to the crime in their computer. (AND my SS# !) They sent me to the Colo. Bureau of Investigation, who keep track of the actual arrest records. I paid my 10 bucks, after driving 200 miles, because I had to make the request in person, and they gave me a arrest rundown, along with a disclaimer saying that not all arrests may have been reported. What do you know, the arrest is not on the report, so I can't challenge it, so I can't get it off the court record, and I can't get it out of the info broker's database. and I can't prove I didn't do it, even though I was never arrested for it.
The moral seems to be that due to some bored clerk's missed keystroke, In the eyes of many, I am a Felon, without the benefit of due process.
Fortunately for me, Colo. has no licensing for PI's.

As a non-attorney, non-PI, non-employer, and totally
honest American citizen in litigation with powers
mightier than myself, but not as mighty as the truth,
I would be very interested in seeing a background
check of myself. I don't expect a freebie, but I do
feel that it is my right to have access to whatever
information is floating around concerning me. If its
true, I already know it, and if its false, I can
refute it. But I can't refute things of which I have
no knowledge. Any help would be welcome.
