- Birth Family Searching Seminar
Friday, June 1, 2001
Castaways Hotel, Casino & Bowling Center (former Showboat)
Las Vegas, Nevada 89110
For anyone who does adoption-related searches, this will be a very
informative seminar by knowledgeable people in the field. At the
recent seminar here in Las Vegas, Joseph Culligan really gave a great
talk and impressed everyone with his vast and unlimited knowledge of
public records resources. At this seminar, as in the last one where
he taught "Public Records In Depth," Joe will do actual searches for
names that will be asked for from attendees.
Besides Joseph Culligan, the other speakers are:
Sandy Musser on "Organizing Your Birth Family Search." Sandy Musser
has been involved with adoption reform since 1976 and is the author
of three books. She is the founder of the "Musser Foundation" and
the lobbying organization Advocating Legislation for the Adoption
Reform Movement. In 1980 she was appointed Chaplain/Trustee of the
International Soundex Reunion Registry in Carson City, NV. The
Musser Foundation reunited over 500 families as well as reuniting
three sets of twins on the Maury Povich Show in the fall of 1992.
Her political arrest and conviction called a "conspiracy to defraud
the government of confidential information" because of sealed
adoption records story was picked up by 60 Minutes, Dateline, and
A&E. Her stiffest penalty was being forced to close her foundation
and forbidden to do adoption searches. Sandy is more than qualified
to teach others how to search.
Anjea Weber on "Adoption Search Profiling." Anjea Weber, an adoptee,
became involved with the Texas Coalition for Adoption Resources and
Education in 1997. In her own search, Ms. Weber got her records
opened by petitioning the court in San Antonio and she spent hours
going through docket books, microfiche, etc., and is well acquainted
with the workings of the court system and it's available records.
She has developed a means of profiling that will help an
adoptee/birth parent in directing their searching efforts. Anjea
devotes her time to working for Adoptee Rights and assisting others
in their searches as well as continuing the other half of her own
